Abstract
A method of an electronic communication device is disclosed. The electronic communication device is arranged to operate in a radio communication system, wherein the radio communication system has capability of performing link adaptation by adapting one or more parameters of communication in view of a quality of a radio link between a network node of the radio communication system and the electronic communication device. The method comprises determining a link adaptation status for the electronic communication device, and transmitting information related to the determined link adaptation status to one or more network nodes of the radio communication system. A method of a network node, an electronic communication device, a network node, and computer programs are also disclosed.

A method of an electronic communication device arranged to operate in a radio communication system, wherein the radio communication system has capability of performing link adaptation by adapting one or more parameters of communication in view of a quality of a radio link between a network node of the radio communication system and the electronic communication device, the method comprising:
determining a link adaptation status for the electronic communication device, wherein the link adaptation status includes information whether link adaptation is applied or forbidden for the electronic communication device, and wherein the information whether link adaptation is allowed or forbidden for the electronic communication device is derived from signalling from a network node of the radio communication system to the electronic communication device, wherein the signalling comprises an indication whether link adaptation is allowed or forbidden for the electronic communication device, wherein when the indication from the network node is that link adaptation is forbidden, the electronic communication device readily causes no link adaption to be applied; and transmitting information related to the determined link adaptation status to one or more network nodes of the radio communication system.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the information whether link adaptation is applied for the electronic communication device is derived from determination whether targeted block error rate of communication deviates between the electronic communication device and a serving network node of the radio communication system and deviates from a predetermined default targeted block error rate, wherein no deviation calls for no link adaptation.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the information whether link adaptation is applied for the electronic communication device is derived from one or more predefined communication scenario or condition.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the link adaptation includes an outer loop link adaptation and the link adaptation status includes information about targeted block error rate used in link adaptation at the electronic communication device.
7 . The method of claim 6 , comprising:
estimating a maximum Doppler shift of signals on a physical channel between a serving network node of the radio communication system and the electronic communication device; and determining the targeted block error rate taking into account the estimated maximum Doppler shift.
8 . The method of claim 6 , comprising
applying an automatic repeat request approach for communication between a serving network node of the radio communication system and the electronic communication device; calculating a real time of block error rate determination of first attempt for transmissions of the automatic repeat request approach at a data decoder of the electronic communication device; and determining the targeted block error rate taking into account the real time calculation.
9 . The method of claim 6 , comprising
estimating channel correlation among receive antenna ports; and determining the targeted block error rate taking into account the estimated channel correlation.
10 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the determining of the targeted block error rate includes taking into account one or more predefined communication scenario or condition.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the link adaptation includes an outer loop link adaptation and the link adaptation status includes information about outer loop link adaptation adjustment.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the information about outer loop link adaptation adjustment comprises information about one or more elements used for link adaptation adjustments.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the one or more elements reflects channel status.
14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the information about outer loop link adaptation adjustment comprises a step size used for the outer loop link adaptation.
15 . The method of claim 12 , comprising
applying an automatic repeat request approach for communication between a serving network node of the radio communication system and the electronic communication device; and calculating a real time of block error rate determination of first attempt for transmissions of the automatic repeat request approach at a data decoder of the electronic communication device, wherein the information about outer loop link adaptation adjustment comprises the calculated real time based on the one or more elements and the step size used for the outer loop link adaptation based on acknowledgements and non-acknowledgements of an automatic repeat request approach.
16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein information about outer loop link adaptation adjustment is determined from a look-up table comprising one or more of:
targeted block error rate; information about communication scenario or condition; step size used for the outer loop link adaptation based on acknowledgements and non-acknowledgements of an automatic repeat request approach; adjusted time limit of time of block error rate of first attempt for transmissions of the automatic repeat request approach; propagation channel; channel correlation; and information related to an estimated maximum Doppler shift of signals on a physical channel between a serving network node of the radio communication system and the electronic communication device.

The method of claim 1 , comprising receiving a request from a network node of the radio communication system, wherein the determining of a link adaptation status and the transmitting of information related to the determined link adaptation status to one or more network nodes of the radio communication system are performed upon the request.
18 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device only transmits the information related to the determined link adaptation status if there is a change in the determined link adaptation status.
19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the transmitting is performed in a higher layer signalling, wherein higher layer is above physical link layer.

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions which, when executed on a processor of an electronic communication apparatus arranged to operate in a radio communication system, cause the electronic communication apparatus to perform a method, wherein the radio communication system has capability of performing link adaptation by adapting one or more parameters of communication in view of a quality of a radio link between a network node of the radio communication system and the electronic communication apparatus, the method comprising:
determining a link adaptation status for the electronic communication apparatus, wherein the link adaptation status includes information whether link adaptation is allowed or forbidden for the electronic communication apparatus, and wherein the information whether link adaptation is allowed or forbidden for the electronic communication apparatus is derived from signalling from a network node of the radio communication system to the electronic communication apparatus, wherein the signalling comprises an indication whether link adaptation is allowed or forbidden for the electronic communication apparatus, wherein when the indication from the network node is that link adaptation is forbidden, the electronic communication apparatus readily causes no link adaption to be applied; and transmitting information related to the determined link adaptation status to one or more network nodes of the radio communication system.
