Interactions among mobile devices in a wireless network
Abstract
One embodiment of the disclosure sets for an example method to create a network of devices. The method includes requesting location information from a first mobile device within the wireless range covered by a stationary device, receiving the location information of the first mobile device, determining whether the distance between the first mobile device and a second mobile device is less than a value, and sending an instruction to the first mobile device to become a part of a communication network such that the first mobile device can send data directly to the second mobile device without involving the stationary device.

2 . A method to maintain a communication session, the method comprising:
assigning, by a first stationary device, first identification information to a mobile device, wherein the first stationary device and the mobile device are in the communication session; storing, by the first stationary device, the first identification information in a database; determining, by the first stationary device, that the mobile device has left a wireless range covered by the first stationary device and has moved to a wireless range covered by a second stationary device; transmitting, by the first stationary device in response to the determination that the mobile device has left the wireless range covered by the first stationary device, a request to access the database to retrieve second identification information linked to the first identification information, wherein the second identification information is assigned to the mobile device by the second stationary device; obtaining, by the first stationary device, the second identification information from the database; and utilizing, by the first stationary device, the obtained second identification information in a signaling protocol to maintain the communication session with the mobile device.

The method of claim 2 , wherein determining that the mobile device has left the wireless range covered by the first stationary device includes receiving, by the first stationary device, a signal that indicates that the mobile device has left the wireless range covered by the first stationary device.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the signal further indicates that the mobile device has moved to the wireless range covered by the second stationary device.
5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the wireless range covered by the first stationary device and the wireless range covered by the second stationary device are mutually exclusive.
6 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first stationary device comprises part of a base station or a switch center.
7 . The method of claim 2 , wherein assigning the first identification information to the mobile device includes assigning a home internet protocol (IP) address to the mobile device, and wherein obtaining the second identification information from the database includes obtaining a guest IP address of the mobile device from the database.
8 . A first stationary device configured to maintain a communication session, the first stationary device comprising:
a memory; and a processor coupled to the memory and operable to perform or control performance of operations that include:
assign first identification information to a mobile device, wherein the first stationary device and the mobile device are in the communication session;
store the first identification information in the memory;
determine that the mobile device has left a wireless range covered by the first stationary device, wherein the mobile device has moved to a wireless range covered by a second stationary device;
in response to the determination that the mobile device has left the wireless range covered by the first stationary device, access the memory to retrieve second identification information linked to the first identification information, wherein the second identification information is assigned to the mobile device by the second stationary device; and
utilize the retrieved second identification information in a signaling protocol to maintain the communication session with the mobile device.
9 . The first stationary device of claim 8 , wherein the operation to determine that the mobile device has left the wireless range covered by the first stationary device includes an operation to:
receive a signal that indicates that the mobile device has left the wireless range covered by the first stationary device.
10 . The first stationary device of claim 9 , wherein the signal further indicates that the mobile device has moved to the wireless range covered by the second stationary device.
11 . The first stationary device of claim 8 , wherein the wireless range covered by the first stationary device and the wireless range covered by the second stationary device are mutually exclusive.
12 . The first stationary device of claim 8 , wherein the first stationary device is part of a base station or a switch center.
13 . The first stationary device of claim 8 , wherein the first identification information includes a home internet protocol (IP) address, and wherein the second identification information includes a guest IP address of the mobile device.
14 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having executable instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by one or more processors of a first computing device, cause the one or more processors to perform or control performance of operations that include:
assign first identification information to a mobile device, wherein the first computing device and the mobile device are in the communication session; store the first identification information in a database; determine that the mobile device has left a wireless range covered by the first computing device, wherein the mobile device has moved to a wireless range covered by a second computing device; send a request to access the database to retrieve second identification information linked to the first identification information, wherein the second identification information is assigned to the mobile device by the second computing device; obtain the second identification information from the database; and utilize the obtained second identification information in a signaling protocol to maintain the communication session with the mobile device.
15 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the operation to determine that the mobile device has left the wireless range covered by the first computing device includes an operation to:
detect a signal that indicates that the mobile device has left the wireless range covered by the first computing device.
16 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the signal further indicates that the mobile device has moved to the wireless range covered by the second computing device.
17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the wireless range covered by the first computing device and the wireless range covered by the second computing device are mutually exclusive.
18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the first computing device comprises part of a base station or a switch center.
19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the first identification information includes a home internet protocol (IP) address, and wherein the second identification information includes a guest IP address of the mobile device.
20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the first computing device or the second computing device is a stationary device.
21 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the operation to utilize the obtained second identification information to maintain the communication session includes operations to:
after the mobile device has moved to the wireless range covered by the second computing device and while the mobile device is outside of the wireless range covered by the first computing device, receive a packet destined for the mobile device; append the second identification information to the received packet; and forward the packet, having the second identification information appended thereto, to the second computing device to enable the second computing device to transmit the packet to the mobile device.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
