Abstract

A system for starting a fire, that has a directional fire-starting device, having a front and a back, and a tube-shaped housing, defining a longitudinal dimension and further defining a slot extending longitudinally along the tube-shaped housing, the slot having a front end near to the front of the device. A flint is positioned inside the flint chamber and has a surface portion that extends adjacent to the slot. A striker has a first portion that is sized to fit through the slot and extend to the flint as a second portion extends from the slot outwardly from the tube-shaped housing, to be grasped by a user.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A fire-starting device, having a front and a back, comprising:
 a. a transversely-round tube-shaped housing having a front end and a back, defining a longitudinal dimension and being closed at said front by a round front wall, and open at said back end, said housing thereby defining a transversely round inner compartment, between said front wall and said open back end; b. an endcap which pressure fits on said back end of said housing; c. a transversely-round ferrocerium rod, mounted on and projecting forward from said round front wall; and d. a striker, tethered to said endcap; e. whereby a user may hold said housing in a first hand and said striker in a second hand and push said striker against said ferrocerium rod as said user moves said striker quickly forward, thereby creating sparks.

2 . The fire-starting device of claim 1 , wherein said housing has an exterior that is rubberized.

3 . The fire-starting device of claim 1 , wherein said housing has an interior made of aluminum.

4 . The fire-starting device of claim 1 , further including a plug attached to a cord removably placed in said compartment.

         5 . The fire-starting device of claim 4 , wherein said plug is cup-shaped.

6 . The fire-starting device of claim 5 , wherein tinder material is stuffed into said cup-shaped plug.
