Abstract

A reinforced water-resistant board includes a cover board with a reinforced water-resistant membrane applied to a surface of the cover board. The reinforced water-resistant membrane includes a primer layer, a reinforced membrane, a traffic coat, and a sealing layer. The primer layer is applied over the surface of the cover board. The reinforced membrane includes fleece soaked in a liquid resin and is applied over the primer layer. The traffic coat is boned to the reinforced member. The sealing layer is applied over the traffic coat.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed:

         1 . A method of installing a water-resistant system, the method comprising:
securing a first water-resistant board having a first edge to a support structure, the first board having an outside surface including a central region and a first recess defined between the central region of the first board and the first edge; securing a second board to the support structure with a second edge of the second board adjacent the first edge of the first board to form a first joint between the first and second edges of the first and second boards, the second board having an outside surface including a central region and a second recess defined between the central region of the second board and the second edge; and applying a sealing strip over the first joint to seal the first joint with the sealing strip forming a seamless joint between the central regions of the first and second boards.

2 . The method according to claim 1 , further comprising applying a sealing compound to the first joint before applying the sealing strip over the first joint, the sealing strip being applied over the sealing compound.

3 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein securing the first board includes driving a fastener through the first board adjacent the first edge into the support structure and wherein applying the sealing strip over the first joint includes applying the sealing strip over the fastener.

4 . The method according to claim 1 , wherein applying the sealing strip over the first joint includes applying the sealing strip in the first and second recesses.

         5 . A method of installing a water-resistant system, the method comprising:
securing a first water-resistant board having a first edge to a support structure; securing a second water-resistant board to the support structure with a second edge of the second board adjacent the first edge of the first board to form a first joint between the first and second edges of the first and second boards; and applying a sealing strip over the first joint to seal the first joint.

6 . The method according to claim 5 , further comprising applying a sealing compound to the first joint before applying the sealing strip over the first joint, the sealing strip being applied over the sealing compound.

7 . The method according to claim 5 , wherein securing the first board includes applying an adhesive between the first board and the support structure.

8 . The method according to claim 5 , wherein securing the first board includes driving a fastener through the first board adjacent the first edge into the support structure and wherein applying the sealing strip over the first joint includes applying the sealing strip over the fastener.

9 . The method according to claim 5 , wherein applying the sealing strip over the first joint includes applying the sealing strip in a first recess formed adjacent the first edge of the first board and a second recess formed adjacent the second edge of the second board with the sealing strip being seamless with central regions of the first and second boards.

10 . The method according to claim 5 , wherein applying the sealing strip over the first joint forms a seamless joint between the first and second boards.

11 . The method according to claim 5 , securing the first board to the support structure includes facing an inside surface of the first board towards the support structure and facing an outside surface, opposite the inside surface, away from the support structure, the outside surface including a traffic coat forming a portion of an outer-most surface thereof.

         12 . A method of manufacturing a water-resistant board, the method comprising:
creating a first recess extending from a first edge of a substrate towards a central region of the substrate, the substrate comprising:
 an inside surface; and
 an outside surface opposite the inside surface, the outside surface having the first edge, a second edge, a third edge, and a fourth edge, the first and second edges intersecting at a first corner, the second and third edges intersecting at a second corner, the third and fourth edges intersecting at a third corner, the outside surface having a central region positioned between the first, second, third, and fourth edges;
creating a second recess extending from the second edge of the substrate towards the central region of the substrate; and applying a traffic coat to the outer surface to form an outer-most surface of a portion of the central region.

13 . The method according to claim 12 , wherein applying the traffic coat to the outer surface includes applying the traffic coat over the entire outer surface of the substrate.

14 . The method according to claim 12 , wherein applying the traffic coat to the outer surface occurs before creating the first and second recesses.

15 . The method according to claim 12 , applying a primer layer to the outer surface.

16 . The method according to claim 15 , wherein applying the primer layer to the outer surface occurs subsequent to creating the first and second recess and includes applying the primer layer to the entire outer surface.

17 . The method according to claim 15 , further comprising applying a reinforced membrane over the primer layer, the reinforced membrane including a liquid resin absorbed in a fleece,

18 . The method according to claim 17 , wherein applying the traffic coat includes applying the traffic coat over the reinforced membrane such that the traffic coat is bonded directly to the reinforced membrane.

19 . The method according to claim 12 , wherein creating the first recess includes rendering the first recess visually distinguishable from the central region.

20 . The method according to claim 12 , wherein creating the first recess includes forming the first recess a depth below the central region such that the first recess is configured to receive a sealing strip therewithin to form a seamless joint with the central region.
