Mobile transactions with merchant identification codes
Abstract
A merchant creates a record with a payment processor. As part of the record, the payment processor records identification codes for one or more merchant operators of the merchant system. The merchant operator, such as a vendor, presents their identification code to a user that desires to purchase a product from the vendor. The user's computing device receives the vendor's identification code, as well as transaction details for the desired purchase transaction. The payment processor receives a request from the user's computing device to process the purchase transaction. Based on the identification code received and the transaction details, the payment processor identifies the merchant record and verifies a financial account for the user. The payment processor provides an authentication to the user computer device, which includes an authorization indicator, such as a vendor password. After the vendor views the authorization indicator, the vendor can provide the product to the user.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 .- 20 . (canceled)
21 . A computer-implemented method to conduct in-person electronic transactions between payors and payees with payor devices and without payee devices, comprising:
acquiring, by a payor device, a payee identifier, an amount to be paid, and a payor identifier; transmitting, by the payor device to a third party payment processing system corresponding to a payee associated with the payee identifier, a request to transfer the amount from an account of the identified payor to an account of the payee; receiving, by the payor device from the third party payment processing system, an indication of authorization; and displaying, by the payor device, the received indication.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein acquiring the payee identifier comprises optically scanning, by the payor device, a code.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the code comprises one of a bar code and a quick reaction (QR) code.
24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein acquiring the payee identifier comprises wirelessly acquiring the payee identifier over a radio frequency channel.
25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the indication comprises a message verifying to the payee, but not to the payor, that the transaction has been authorized.
26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the payor identifier comprises a product identifier.
27 . A computer-implemented method to conduct in-person electronic transactions between payors and payees with payor devices and without payee devices, comprising, by a payment processing system:
registering a payor and a payee; receiving, from a payor device of a registered payor, a request to transfer an amount from an account of the payor to an account of the registered payee; determining whether to authorize the transfer; and upon a determination to authorize the transfer:
transmitting, to the payor device without contemporaneously transmitting to a payee device, an indication that the transfer was authorized; and
completing the authorized transfer.
28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the indication comprises a message verifying to the payee, but not to the payor, that the transaction has been authorized.
29 . The method of claim 27 , wherein determining whether to authorize the transfer comprises:
transmitting to an issuer system of the account of the registered payor an authorization request to transfer the amount from an account of the registered payor to an account of the registered payee; and receiving, from the issuer system, an indication of authorization.
30 . A system to use one-time codes to conduct in-person electronic transactions between payors and payees with payor devices and without payee devices, the system comprising:
a third party payment processing system comprising a first storage device and a first processor communicatively coupled to the first storage device, wherein the first processor executes application code instructions that are stored in the first storage device to cause the third party payment processing system to:
register a payor and a payee;
receive, from a payor device of a registered payor, a request to transfer an amount from an account of the payor to an account of the registered payee;
determine whether to authorize the transfer; and
upon a determination to authorize the transfer:
transmit, to the payor device without contemporaneously transmitting to a payee device, an indication that the transfer was authorized; and
complete the authorized transfer; and
a payor device comprising a second storage device and a second processor communicatively coupled to the second storage device, wherein the second processor executes application code instructions that are stored in the second storage device to cause the payor device to:
acquire a payee identifier of the registered payee, an amount to be paid, and a payor identifier of the registered payor;
transmit, to the third party payment processing system corresponding to a payee associated with the payee identifier, the request to transfer an amount from an account of the payor to an account of a registered payee;
receive, from the third party payment processing system, an indication of authorization; and
display, by the payor device, the received indication.
31 . The system of claim 30 , wherein acquiring the payee identifier comprises optically scanning, by the payor device, a code.
32 . The system of claim 30 , wherein acquiring comprises wirelessly acquiring over a radio frequency channel.
33 . The system of claim 31 , wherein the code comprises one of a bar code and a quick reaction (QR) code.
34 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the indication comprises a message verifying to the payee, but not to the payor, that the transaction has been authorized.
35 . The system of claim 30 , wherein the payor identifier comprises a product identifier.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
