Method For Trimming Horses' Hooves

Abstract

A method for trimming equine hoofs is disclosed that takes care to measure all four hooves of an equine for symmetry of trimming, then carefully trims regions of the hooves to ideal measurements. In another embodiment, the trimming is done in a specific order and in incremental iterations to ensure a perfect hoof trimming. Used properly, the method realigns the keratin tubules found in the make up of the hoof horn, or wall, which subsequently has the effect of stimulating healthy formation of laminae. By realigning the hoof improves the equine's: skeletal, circulatory, respiratory, nervous, skin, muscle, digestive, urogenital, and lymphatic systems resulting in their healthy operation.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for trimming equines' hooves, comprising the follow steps:
 Step ( 1 ), measuring a equine's hoof; wherein measurements are taken of the deepest part of the collateral groove at both sides at the rear of the hoof where the frog meets the hoof and at the apex of the frog in the middle of the hoof/frog connection, these measurements are taken from the bottom depth of the collateral groove to the top height of the hoof wall where the hoof would touch the ground, the measurements taken at the rear of the hoof will measure to the top of the hoof wall at the rear of the hoof and the measurements taken at the apex will measure to the toe;   Step ( 2 ), calculating the amounts of trimming  300  to be done to the hooves; wherein the type of animal the hoof belongs to is determined, based on the type of animal determined a ideal size of a given measurement is determined, the ideal size of the measurement is then subtracted from the actual size of the measurement and the remainder is then the amount that needs to be trimmed from the location on the hoof; if there is no remainder, then that location on the hoof should not be trimmed; and,   Step ( 3 ), trimming the hoof using the calculations made in Step ( 2 ).   
     
     
         2 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 1 , wherein the trimming in Step ( 3 ) is performed incrementally and Step ( 1 ) and Step ( 2 ) are performed between each incrementally performed Step ( 3 ). 
     
     
         3 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 1 , wherein Step  1  also comprises first cleaning the hoof. 
     
     
         4 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 1 , wherein the collateral groove on all four hooves of a equine are measured prior to said trimming, and said trimming of the collateral grooves on all four hooves is as symmetrical as possible. 
     
     
         5 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 1 , wherein said collateral groove depth is trimmed indirectly by trimming the bars, the frog, the sole, the walls, the quarters, the toe, or the heel buttress. 
     
     
         6 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 4 , wherein said frog is trimmed to the lowest depth of the sulcus and the collateral groove. 
     
     
         7 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 5 , wherein said heel is trimmed after said frog. 
     
     
         8 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 6 , wherein said inner and outer quarters are trimmed after said heel. 
     
     
         9 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 7 , wherein said toe is trimmed after said inner and outer quarters. 
     
     
         10 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 8 , wherein said concavity is trimmed after said toe. 
     
     
         11 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 9 , wherein said laminae is beveled from the wall outward after said toe is trimmed. 
     
     
         12 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 10 , wherein said bars are sculpted after said laminae. 
     
     
         13 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 11 , wherein a mustang roll is trimmed into the hoof. 
     
     
         14 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 12 , wherein the trimming in Step ( 3 ) is performed incrementally and Step ( 1 ) and Step ( 2 ) are performed between each incrementally performed Step ( 3 ). 
     
     
         15 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 1 , wherein Step ( 2 ) also comprises a determination that the animal is one of: a full-grown equine the size of an adult horse; wherein the ideal of said measurements in Step ( 2 ) are: the depth from said collateral groove at both sides at the rear of the hoof where the frog meets the hoof and at said apex of the frog and the collateral groove at both the apex and at either side of the rear of the collateral groove is 13 mm to 15 mm. 
     
     
         16 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 1 , wherein Step ( 2 ) also comprises a determination that the animal is one of: an equine animal half the size of a full grown horse, an adult miniature horse, an adult pony, a small adult hinny, a small jack asses, and a small donkey;
 wherein the ideal of said measurements in Step ( 2 ) are: the depth from said collateral groove at both sides at the rear of the hoof where the frog meets the hoof and at said apex of the frog and the collateral groove at both the apex and at either side of the rear of the collateral groove is 6.5 mm to 7.5 mm.   
     
     
         17 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 1 , wherein Step ( 2 ) further comprises: a measurement taken of the thickness of the hoof wall at the inside and outside quarters by measuring from the outside of the hoof wall to the laminae or white line; a measurement taken of the length of the hoof from heel to toe; a measurement taken from the toe to the coronet band; a measurement taken from the quarters to the coronet band; a measurement taken from the top of the heel to the bottom of the rear of the hoof; a measurement taken from the top of the bar to the sole; a measurement taken of the width of the laminae; a measurement taken of the hoof wall at the rear of the hoof measuring the widest part of the rear of the heel measuring side to side; and a measurement taken of the depth of the sulcus to the top of the frog. 
     
     
         18 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 17 , wherein Step ( 2 ) also comprises a determination that the animal is one of: a full-grown equine the size of an adult horse; wherein the ideal of said measurements in Step ( 2 ) are: the depth from said collateral groove at both sides at the rear of the hoof where the frog meets the hoof and at said apex of the frog and the collateral groove at both the apex and at either side of the rear of the collateral groove is 13 mm to 15 mm; the toe to the coronet band is 2.75 inches to 3.5 inches; the quarters to the coronet band is 2.5 inches to 2.75 inches; the top of the heel to the bottom of the rear of the hoof is 7 mm to 8.5 mm; the top of the bar to the sole is 0 mm; the thickness of the hoof wall at the inside and outside quarters is 7 mm to 8 mm; the width of the Laminae is 4 mm to 6 mm; the hoof wall at the rear of the hoof, measuring at widest part of the rear of the heel measuring side to side is 13 mm to 15 mm; the depth of the sulcus to the top of the frog is 2 mm to 4 mm. 
     
     
         19 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 17 , wherein Step ( 2 ) also comprises a determination that the animal is one of: an equine animal half the size of a full grown horse, an adult miniature horse, an adult pony, a small adult hinny, a small jack ass, and a small donkey; wherein the ideal of said measurements in Step ( 2 ) are: the depth from said collateral groove at both sides at the rear of the hoof where the frog meets the hoof and at said apex of the frog and the collateral groove at both the apex and at either side of the rear of the collateral groove is 6.5 mm to 7.5 mm; the toe to the coronet band is 1.35 inches to 1.75 inches; the quarters to the coronet band is 1.25 inches to 1.375 inches; the top of the heel to the bottom of the rear of the hoof is 3.5 mm to 4.25 mm; the top of the bar to the sole is 0 mm; the thickness of the hoof wall at the inside and outside quarters is 3.5 mm to 4 mm; the width of the Laminae is 2 mm to 3 mm; the hoof wall at the rear of the hoof, measuring at widest part of the rear of the heel measuring side to side is 6.5 mm to 7.5 mm; the depth of the sulcus to the top of the frog is 1 mm to 2 mm. 
     
     
         20 . The method for trimming equines' hooves of  claim 17 , wherein the trimming in Step ( 3 ) is performed incrementally and Step ( 1 ) and Step ( 2 ) are performed between each incrementally performed Step ( 3 ).
