Self-adapting floating diameter embolic coil and delivery system
Abstract
A vaso-occlusive device, delivery system and method of delivery to a selected site of the vessel in a manner allowing the vaso-occlusive device to substantially assumes a diameter of an inner surface of the vessel or aneurism sac at the site of the embolization procedure. The vaso-occlusive device or embolic coil has specific properties of wanting to float and conform to the diameter of the aneurysm sac thereby enabling retractability and rapid disconnect detachment for such embolic coil, and a predetermined shape requiring fewer embolic coils per embolization procedure advantageously improving patient risk, and the cost and time of the procedure. A method for deploying the embolic coil with such specific properties to the site of an aneurysm using a delivery system configured for deploying the embolic coil features inserting, and/or reconnecting for positioning and reinserting the embolic coil.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of occluding a selected site in a vessel using a vaso-occlusive device, said method comprising
accessing the site with a delivery assembly; deploying the vaso-occlusive device from said delivery assembly into said selected site of said vessel, allowing the vaso-occlusive device to substantially assume a shape of an inner surface of said vessel at the site; positioning one or more jaws of said delivery assembly at the site adjacent to a proximal end of the vaso-occlusive device; energizing a gripper assembly of said delivery assembly to open said one or more jaws; arranging said one or more jaws around said proximal end of the vaso-occlusive device; deenergizing a gripper assembly of said delivery assembly to close said one or more jaws to said proximal end; inserting the vaso-occlusive device into an aneurysm sac with said one or more jaws around said proximal end of the vaso-occlusive device; energizing a gripper assembly of said delivery assembly to open said one or more jaws; and releasing said gripper assembly from the vaso-occlusive device deployed in said vessel.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said positioning of said proximal end selected from a group consisting of an orthogonally looped proximal end, curled proximal end and/or T-pin of said vaso-occlusive device.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said deploying of the vaso-occlusive device is an embolic coil having an ordinal arrangement along its longitudinal axis from said group consisting of circular, cylindrical, conical, oscillating, spherical, and triangular form.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said deploying of the vaso-occlusive device is an embolic coil consisting of a material from said group consisting of NiTi, platinum, tungsten, titanium, gold, iridium, palladium, tantalum, and alloys.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
