Chess pieces operatively arranged to communicate with a sensory chessboard and a chess set comprising the chess pieces and sensory chessboard

Abstract

A chess piece, having a body, the body having a cavity therein, the cavity having a metal weight therein, a ferrite sheet positioned below the metal weight and in proximity thereto, and, an RFID tag positioned below the ferrite sheet, the RFID tag secured to the body.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A chess piece, comprising:
 a body having a cavity therein;   a metal weight positioned within said cavity;   a ferrite sheet positioned below said metal weight and in proximity thereto; and,   an RFID tag positioned below said ferrite sheet, said RFID tag secured to said body.   
     
     
         2 . The chess piece recited in  claim 9  further comprising a base pad fixedly secured to said RFID tag. 
     
     
         3 . The chess piece recited in  claim 9  wherein said metal weight is made of lead. 
     
     
         4 . The chess piece recited in  claim 9  wherein said RFID tag comprises an antenna tuned to approximately 13.56 MHz. 
     
     
         5 . The chess piece recited in  claim 12  wherein said RFID tag antenna is tuned to a corresponding RFID antenna beneath a square on a chessboard. 
     
     
         6 . The chess piece recited in  claim 12  wherein said RFID tag is encoded with a code which uniquely identifies the chess piece. 
     
     
         7 . The chess piece recited in  claim 12  wherein said body is made of wood. 
     
     
         8 . The chess piece recited in  claim 12  wherein said body is made of plastic. 
     
     
         9 . The chess piece recited in  claim 12  wherein said body is made of bone. 
     
     
         10 . The chess piece recited in  claim 12  wherein said body is made of ivory. 
     
     
         11 . A chess piece, comprising:
 a body having a base;   an RFID tag secured to said base, where said RFID tag is encoded with a code which uniquely identifies the chess piece.   
     
     
         12 . A chess set, comprising:
 a chessboard comprising:   
       a top layer comprising sixty-four (64) squares of alternating color arranged in eight parallel ranks and eight parallel files;
 a bottom layer comprising a circuit board, said circuit board comprising sixty-four (64) radio frequency identification antennas arranged in registration with said sixty-four (64) squares of alternating color in said top layer; 
 an electronic circuit operatively arranged to sense positions and movement of chess pieces on said sixty-four (64) squares of said top layer, and communicate said positions and movement to a computer; and, 
 a plurality of chess pieces for use with said chessboard, where each chess piece comprises a radio frequency identification tag which uniquely identifies said piece, said tag operatively arranged to communicate with said radio frequency identification antennas in said circuit board.
