Abstract
A transdermal magnesium cream composition and related method of creating the formulation includes: magnesium chloride, water, hydroxypropyl starch phosphate, at least one emulsifier selected from cetearyl olivate or sorbitan olivate, isopropyl palmitate, emulsifying wax, cetyl alcohol, glycerin, butyrospermum parkii (shea butter). The composition also includes at least one preservative selected from iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid, or sorbic acid.

1 . A transdermal magnesium cream composition, comprising:
magnesium chloride; at least one diluent; at least one emulsifier; and at least one fat soluble component.
2 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 1 , wherein:
the at least one diluent comprises water; the at least one emulsifier comprises at least one of cetearyl olivate or sorbitan olivate; and the at least one fat soluble component comprises butyrospermum parkii.
3 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 1 , wherein the magnesium chloride is provided in an amount of about 10% wt.
4 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 1 , further comprising:
at least one modifier; at least one thickener; at least one emollient; at least one humectant; at least one preservative.
5 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 4 , further comprising further comprising an emulsifying wax.
6 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 5 , wherein the emulsifying wax is provided in an amount of about 2.5 wt % to about 3.5 wt %.
7 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 4 , wherein:
the at least one modifier comprises hydroxylpropyl starch phosphate; the at least one thickener comprises cetyl alcohol; the at least one emollient comprises isopropyl palmitate; the at least one humectant comprises glycerin; and the at least one preservative comprises iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid, or sorbic acid.
8 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 7 , wherein the at least one preservative is one of:
i) iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, ii) phenoxyethanol and caprylyl glycol, or iii) benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid, and sorbic acid.
9 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 1 , wherein the magnesium chloride is provided in an amount of about 8 wt % to 30 wt %.
10 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 1 , wherein the magnesium chloride is provided in an amount of about 20 wt % to 30 wt %.
11 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 1 , wherein the magnesium chloride is provided in an amount of about 8 wt % to about 12 wt %.
12 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one diluent includes water provided in an amount of about 57 wt % to about 81 wt %.
13 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least emulsifier includes cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, or both cetearyl olivate and the sorbitan olivate provided in an amount of about 4 wt % to about 6 wt %.
14 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fat soluble component includes butyrospermum parkii provided in an amount of about 0.7 wt % to about 1.3 wt %.
15 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 4 , wherein the at least one emollient includes isopropyl palmitate provided in an amount of about 4 wt % to about 6 wt %.
16 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 4 , wherein the at least one humectant includes glycerin provided in an amount of about 2.5 wt % to about 3.5 wt %.
17 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 4 , wherein the at least one modifier includes hydroxypropyl starch phosphate provided in an amount of about 0.8 wt % to about 1.2 wt %.
18 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 4 , wherein the at least one preservative includes iodopropynyl butylcarbamate.
19 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 18 , wherein the iodopropynyl butylcarbamate is provided in an amount of about 0.08 wt % to about 0.12 wt %.
20 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 4 , wherein the at least one preservative includes caprylyl glycol and phenoxyethanol.
21 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 20 , wherein the caprylyl glycol and phenoxyethanol are provided in an amount of about 0.7 wt % to about 1.3 wt %.
22 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 4 , wherein the at least one preservative includes iodopropynyl butylcarbamate provided in an amount of about 0.08 wt % to about 0.12 wt % and the caprylyl glycol and phenoxyethanol provided in an amount of about 0.7 wt % to about 1.3 wt %.
23 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 4 , wherein the at least one preservative includes benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid, and sorbic acid.
24 . The transdermal magnesium cream composition of claim 23 , wherein the at least one preservative further includes glycerin and the at least one preservative is provided in an amount of about 0.9 wt % to about 1.5 wt %.
25 . A method of forming a transdermal magnesium cream composition, comprising combining the magnesium chloride, the at least one diluent, the at least one emulsifier, and the at least one fat soluble component of claim 1 to generated the transdermal magnesium cream composition.
26 . A method of forming a transdermal magnesium cream composition, comprising:
dissolving magnesium chloride and a modifier in a first volume of water to form a first mixture; mixing an emulsifier, a thickener, and emulsifying wax in a second volume of water to form a second mixture; heating the second mixture; after heating the second mixture, cooling the second mixture and combining the first and second mixtures together to form a third mixture; adding an emollient, a humectant, a fat soluble component, and a preservative to the third mixture to form the transdermal magnesium cream composition.
27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the modifier includes hydroxylpropyl starch phosphate.
28 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the emulsifier includes at least one of cetearyl olivate or sorbitan olivate.
29 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the thickener includes cetyl alcohol.
30 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the emollient includes isopropyl palmitate.
31 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the humectant includes glycerin.
32 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the fat soluble component includes butyrospermum parkii.
33 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the preservative includes at least one of iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, benzyl alcohol, benzoic acid, or sorbic acid.
34 . The method of claim 26 , wherein heating the second mixture comprises heating to a temperature of about 85° C.
