Abstract

The methods and formulations include, but are not limited to, methods and formulations for delivering effective concentrations of levocetirizine and montelukast to a patient in need. The methods and formulations can comprise conventional and/or modified-release elements, providing for drug delivery to the patient. The combination can be useful during and following radiation exposure to ameliorate the inflammatory response.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of treating a patient having rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis, the method comprising administering to the patient an effective amount of a combination of levocetirizine and montelukast. 
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the combination is administered at the onset of symptoms. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the combination is administered in a sequential manner. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the combination is administered in a substantially simultaneous manner. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the condition is caused by a viral infection. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein the viral infection is caused by a virus selected from the group consisting of: rhinovirus, coronavirus, influenza, human parainfluenza virus, human respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus, enterovirus, and metapneumovirus or Epstein Barr virus. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the combination is administered to the patient by one or more of the routes consisting of enteral, intravenous, intraperitoneal, inhalation, intramuscular, subcutaneous and oral. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the levocetirizine and montelukast are administered by the same route. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the combination further comprising a steroid. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the rhinosinusitis is caused by bacterial infection. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the bacterial infection is caused by a bacteria selected from the group consisting of  Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococcus aureus , anaerobic bacteria, and gram negative bacteria. 
     
     
         12 . A method of treating a patient having rhinosinusitis, the method comprising administering to the patient an effective amount of a combination of levocetirizine and montelukast. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the combination is administered at the onset of symptoms. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the combination is administered in a sequential manner. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the combination is administered in a substantially simultaneous manner. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the rhinosinusitis is bacterial, viral, or fungal. 
     
     
         17 . A method of treating a patient having nasal polyposis, the method comprising administering to the patient an effective amount of a combination of levocetirizine and montelukast. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the combination is administered at the onset of symptoms. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the combination is administered in a sequential manner. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 17 , wherein the combination is administered in a substantially simultaneous manner.
