Abstract

An alternative twin cylinder air compressor including a first and a second pumping unit, arranged in line and having respective cylinders, an electric motor interposed between the pumping units, having a respective axis of rotation, the cylinders extending transversely to the axis of rotation, pneumatic connection means designed to allow the flow of air towards and away from the cylinders.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . An alternative twin cylinder air compressor comprising:
 a first and a second pumping unit, said two pumping units being arranged in line and having respective cylinders,   an electric motor interposed between said first and second pumping unit, comprising a respective axis of rotation, said cylinders extending transversely to said axis of rotation,   pneumatic connection means designed to allow the flow of air towards and away from said cylinders, comprising, interposed between the cylinders, a containment body for containing the pneumatic connection means, the containment body defining at least one intake conduit for air intake, in common for the cylinders, the intake conduit extending transversely relative to the axis of rotation of the electric motor.   
     
     
         2 . The compressor according to  claim 1 , wherein the containment body comprises a chamber for housing a filter for the air, the intake conduit leading to the inside of said chamber. 
     
     
         3 . The compressor according to  claim 1 , wherein the intake conduit is positioned at a center line zone between said cylinders to be spaced from them. 
     
     
         4 . The compressor according to  claim 1 , wherein the containment body comprises lateral guards on one of which is made said air intake conduit. 
     
     
         5 . The compressor according to  claim 4 , wherein on the lateral guard on which is made the air intake conduit is defined an inlet opening of the intake conduit, wherein the inlet opening protrudes in a cantilever fashion relative to said cylinders. 
     
     
         6 . The compressor according to  claim 4 , comprising an electric capacitor, wherein the containment body defines a housing for said electric capacitor, the electric capacitor being supported by at least one of said lateral guards. 
     
     
         7 . The compressor according to  claim 4 , wherein on said lateral guards are made respective slots configured to define a zone of circulation of air from the outside to the inside of the containment body, designed for cooling the electric motor. 
     
     
         8 . The compressor according to  claim 1 , wherein said electric motor comprises a through drive shaft and on opposite longitudinal ends of the shaft are keyed two respective cooling fans, comprising, at said fans, two respective covers extending in the direction of the cylinders and configured to convey at least a part of the flow of air generated by the fans up to the top of the cylinders.
