Abstract

An organic light emitting device (OLED) that includes an anode, a first organic layer, a second organic layer, a third organic layer, an emissive layer, and a cathode is disclosed. The emissive layer can include a first emissive dopant, and the third organic layer comprises A consumer product containing the OLED is also described.

We claim: 
     
         1 . An organic light emitting device (OLED) comprising, sequentially:
 an anode;   a first organic layer;   a second organic layer;   a third organic layer;   an emissive layer; and   a cathode;   wherein the emissive layer comprises a first emissive dopant, and   wherein the third organic layer comprises   
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
     
     
         2 . The OLED of  claim 1 , wherein the first emissive dopant is a phosphorescent emitter. 
     
     
         3 . The OLED of  claim 1 , wherein the first emissive dopant is an Ir complex. 
     
     
         4 . The OLED of  claim 1 , wherein the emissive layer further comprises a host. 
     
     
         5 . The OLED of  claim 4 , wherein the host comprises an electron transporting compound and a hole transporting compound. 
     
     
         6 . The OLED of  claim 4 , wherein the host comprises at least one chemical group selected from the group consisting of carbazole, dibenzothiphene, dibenzofuran, dibenzoselenophene, azacarbazole, aza-dibenzothiophene, azadibenzofuran, and aza-dibenzoselenophene. 
     
     
         7 . The OLED of  claim 1 , wherein the OLED further comprises a fourth organic layer between the emissive layer and the cathode. 
     
     
         8 . The OLED of  claim 4 , wherein the OLED further comprises a fourth organic layer between the emissive layer and the cathode. 
     
     
         9 . The OLED of  claim 8 , wherein the fourth organic layer comprises the host. 
     
     
         10 . The OLED of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the following is true: the first organic layer is a hole injection layer, the second organic layer is a hole transport layer, and the third organic layer is an electron blocking layer. 
     
     
         11 . The OLED of  claim 1 , wherein the third organic layer is an electron blocking layer. 
     
     
         12 . The OLED of  claim 1 , wherein the first organic layer is a hole injection layer, the second organic layer is a hole transport layer, and the third organic layer is an electron blocking layer. 
     
     
         13 . The OLED of  claim 12 , further comprising a fourth organic layer between the emissive layer and the cathode. 
     
     
         14 . The OLED of  claim 1 , wherein the third organic layer contacts the emissive layer. 
     
     
         15 . An organic light emitting device (OLED) comprising:
 an anode;   an electron blocking layer comprising   
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         an emissive layer; and 
         a cathode, 
         wherein the emissive layer comprises a first emissive dopant, and 
         wherein the electron blocking layer is between the anode and the emissive layer. 
       
     
     
         16 . The OLED of  claim 15 , further comprising at least one of a hole injection layer and a hole transport layer between the electron blocking layer and the anode. 
     
     
         17 . The OLED of  claim 15 , wherein the electron blocking layer contacts the emissive layer. 
     
     
         18 . The OLED of  claim 15 , further comprising a hole injection layer, and a hole transport layer,
 wherein the hole injection layer and the hole transport layer are between the anode and the electron blocking layer and the hole injection layer is between the hole transport layer and the anode.   
     
     
         19 . A consumer product comprising an organic light emitting device (OLED) comprising, sequentially:
 an anode;   a first organic layer;   a second organic layer;   a third organic layer;   an emissive layer; and   a cathode;   wherein the emissive layer comprises a first emissive dopant, and   wherein the third organic layer comprises

The consumer product of  claim 19 , wherein the consumer product is one of a flat panel displays, computer monitors, medical monitors, televisions, billboards, lights for interior or exterior illumination and/or signaling, heads-up displays, fully or partially transparent displays, flexible displays, laser printers, telephones, cell phones, tablets, phablets, personal digital assistants (PDAs), laptop computers, digital cameras, camcorders, viewfinders, micro-displays, 3-D displays, vehicles, an area wall, theater or stadium screens, and signs.
