Abstract

A method for forming a golf club head comprises placing an uncured composite material between a core and a mold that comprises a first piece and a second piece. The second piece is moved towards the first piece such that the uncured composite material is compressed between the core and at least a portion of the mold. The uncured composite material is heated. A first portion of the golf club head is removed from the mold. A second portion of the golf club head is provided. The first portion is attached to the second portion. In certain arrangements, the second portion is formed from a metallic material.

1 - 40 . (canceled)

         41 . A golf club head, comprising:
a face, a sole, a crown, a toe region, a heel region, and a rear portion; a first portion of the golf club head comprising a composite shell defining at least a portion of the toe region, at least a portion of the heel region, and a majority of the crown; a second portion of the golf club head comprising a metal body including a sole portion defining at least a portion of the sole, a crown portion defining at least a portion of the crown, and a heel portion connecting the crown portion and the sole portion and defining at least a portion of the heel region, and wherein a hosel formed of a metallic material extends outward from the crown portion proximate the heel region; wherein the first portion of the golf club head overlaps at least a portion of the second portion of the golf club head forming an attachment surface, and the first portion of the golf club head and the second portion of the golf club head are adhesively bonded together at the attachment surface.

42 . The golf club head of claim 41 , wherein:
where the first portion of the golf club head overlaps the second portion of the golf club head, the first portion of the golf club head is located exteriorly to the second portion of the golf club head.

43 . The golf club head of claim 42 , wherein at least a portion of the attachment surface is at least four times as wide as a thickness of the composite shell.

44 . The golf club head of claim 43 , wherein the first portion of the golf club head is formed of a material having a density that is no more than one third the density of the second portion of the golf club head.

45 . The golf club head of claim 44 , wherein the second portion of the golf club head is formed of a titanium alloy.

46 . The golf club head of claim 43 , wherein the first portion of the golf club head is formed of a material having a density that is roughly one third the density of the second portion of the golf club head.

47 . The golf club head of claim 46 , wherein the second portion of the golf club head is formed of a titanium alloy.

48 . The golf club head of claim 47 , wherein the sole portion of the metal body extends further rearward than the crown portion of the metal body.

49 . The golf club head of claim 48 , wherein the composite shell forms a top portion of the golf club head and a bottom portion of the golf club head.

50 . The golf club head of claim 48 , wherein the composite shell wraps around from the crown portion towards the sole portion of the golf club head.

51 . The golf club head of claim 48 , wherein at least an exterior portion of the composite shell forms an obtuse angle where the composite shell wraps around from the crown portion towards the sole portion of the golf club head.

52 . The golf club head of claim 48 , wherein the composite shell wraps around from the crown portion towards the sole portion of the golf club head at the heel region and toe region of the golf club head.

53 . The golf club head of claim 48 , wherein the composite shell wraps around from the crown portion towards the sole portion of the golf club head at the heel region, the toe region, and the rear portion of the golf club head.

54 . The golf club head of claim 42 , wherein the composite shell wraps around from the crown portion towards the sole portion of the golf club head at the heel region and toe region of the golf club head.

55 . The golf club head of claim 48 , wherein the composite shell is made with a tolerance that is less than approximately 0.15 millimeters such that a gap between the first abutment surface and the second abutment surface is less than approximately 0.3 millimeter.

56 . The golf club head of claim 48 , wherein the golf club head has a volume that is greater than 400 cm 3 .

57 . The golf club head of claim 48 , wherein the golf club head comprises an interior volume that is substantially hollow with the exception of at least one rib.

         58 . A golf club head, comprising:
a face, a sole, a crown, a toe region, a heel region, and a rear portion; a first portion of the golf club head comprising a composite shell defining a majority of the crown; a second portion of the golf club head comprising a metal body including a sole portion defining at least a portion of the sole, a crown portion defining at least a portion of the crown, and a heel portion connecting the crown portion and the sole portion and defining at least a portion of the heel region, and wherein a hosel formed of a metallic material extends outward from the crown portion proximate the heel region; wherein the first portion of the golf club head overlaps at least a portion of the second portion of the golf club head forming an attachment surface, and the first portion of the golf club head and the second portion of the golf club head are adhesively bonded together at the attachment surface; wherein at least a portion of the attachment surface is at least four times as wide as a thickness of the composite shell; wherein where the first portion of the golf club head overlaps the second portion of the golf club head, the first portion of the golf club head is located exteriorly to the second portion of the golf club head; wherein the golf club head has a volume that is greater than 400 cm 3 ; wherein the golf club head comprises an interior volume that is substantially hollow with the exception of at least one rib; and wherein the second portion of the golf club head is formed of a titanium alloy.
