Abstract

Coated proppants for use in fracking operations for oil and gas production are coated with a reactive resin composition containing 80-99.5 wt. % of a reactive polymer resin, and 0.5 to 8 wt. % of an alkoxy-functional silicone resin. The cured coating exhibits high fracture resistance and yet the proppant particles are free flowing.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 .- 11 . (canceled)

         12 . A reactive resin composition, comprising:
 (A) 80%-99.5% by weight of at least one reactive resin, and (B) 0.5%-8% by weight of at least one silicone resin
comprising units of the formulae (Ia), (Ib), (VII) and (Id)

       where
R 17 are each identical or different monovalent substituted or unsubstituted organic radicals optionally bearing functional groups, an —OH radical or a hydrogen radical,
       with the provisos that
in (B) at least 20 mol % of units of the formula (Ia) or (Ib) or mixture thereof is present,
in (B) at most 50 mol % of units of the formula (Ib) is present,
alkoxy groups are present in (B) as R 17 to an extent of at least 5% by weight.

13 . The reactive resin composition of claim 12 , wherein (B) comprises at least 8.5% by weight of alkoxy groups.

14 . The reactive resin composition of claim 12 , wherein at least 10 mol % of all R 17 radicals are identical or different, monovalent, substituted or unsubstituted organic radicals having at least 3 carbon atoms.

15 . The reactive resin composition of claim 12 , wherein at least 1 mol % of all R 17 radicals are independently selected from organofunctional radicals and silicon-bonded hydrogen.

16 . The reactive resin composition of claim 14 , further comprising as R 17 radicals, at least 1 mol % of radicals independently selected from organofunctional radicals and silicon-bonded hydrogen.

17 . A process for preparing a reactive resin composition of claim 12 , comprising:
dispersing (B) in (A) with the proviso that (A) is free-flowing at 20° C., (A) has been rendered free-flowing by prior heating up to 250° C. or (A) has been dissolved in a suitable solvent to render it free-flowing.

18 . A coating, molding, workpiece, or foam, comprising a reactive resin composition of claim 12 .

         19 . A proppant, coated with a reactive resin composition of claim 12 .

20 . A process for producing coated proppants, comprising coating proppant particles with a reactive resin composition of claim 12 .

21 . A process for producing coated proppants, comprising: applying a reactive resin composition of claim 12 to proppant particles in free-flowing form, optionally with one or more hardeners (C) and optionally with or without one or more additives (D), and then hardening the reactive resin composition.

22 . A coated proppant obtained from the process of claim 21 .

23 . In a fracking production method for mineral oil and natural gas production where a proppant is employed, the improvement comprising employing as said proppant, at least one proppant coated with the reactive resin composition of claim 12 .

24 . In a fracking production method for mineral oil and natural gas production where a proppant is employed, the improvement comprising employing as said proppant, at least one proppant prepared by the process of claim 21 .
