Abstract
In one embodiment, a method includes accessing location data of a first user including multiple geographic locations, wherein each geographic location is associated with a timestamp. The method includes determining a path of travel of the first user based on the geographic locations and their respective timestamps. The method includes identifying a plurality of second geographic locations based in part on a proximity of the second geographic locations to the path of travel of the first user. The method includes ranking the second geographic locations based on the proximity of each second geographic location to the path of travel of the first user and one or more social factors associated with the respective second geographic location. The method includes providing a list of one or more of the second geographic locations for display, wherein the second geographic locations are displayed in the list in an order according to their rankings.

1 . A method comprising:
accessing location data of a first user comprising a plurality of geographic locations, wherein each geographic location is associated with a timestamp; determining a path of travel of the first user based on one or more of the plurality of geographic locations and their respective timestamps; identifying a plurality of second geographic locations based in part on a proximity of the second geographic locations to the path of travel of the first user; ranking the second geographic locations based on the proximity of each second geographic location to the path of travel of the first user and one or more social factors associated with the respective second geographic location; and providing a list of one or more of the second geographic locations for display, wherein the second geographic locations are displayed in the list in an order according to their rankings.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein, when ranking the second geographic locations, a second geographic location is up-ranked coincident with a greater proximity to the path of travel.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein, when ranking the second geographic locations, a respective second geographic location is up-ranked based on social-networking actions with the second geographic location.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first user is a user of an online social network, and wherein the one or more social factors comprise social-networking information associated with the first user and the respective second geographic location.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the one or more social factors comprise a social- networking action taken by the first user with respect to the respective second geographic location.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the social-networking action comprises a check-in at a page associated with the respective second geographic location.
7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the social-networking action comprises an interaction with a page associated with the respective second geographic location.
8 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the one or more social factors comprise social-networking information associated with one or more second users of the online social network and the respective second geographic location.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the one or more second users are identified based on a current geographic location of each second user being proximate to a current geographic location of the first user.
10 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the one or more social factors comprise a rating associated with the second geographic location or a review of the second geographic location.
11 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the online social network comprises a social graph comprising a plurality of nodes and a plurality of edges connecting the nodes, each of the edges between two of the nodes representing a single degree of separation between them, the nodes comprising:
a first node corresponding to the first user of the online social network; and a plurality of second nodes corresponding to a plurality of respective second users of the online social network.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the one or more social factors comprise social- networking information associated with the respective second geographic location and one or more second users of the online social network within a threshold degree of separation of the first user in the social graph.
13 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing for display a view of a graphical map corresponding to the path of travel, the view comprising indicators for at least one of the one or more second geographic locations, each of the indicators being positioned at respective geographic coordinates on the graphical map corresponding to the respective second geographic location.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the list of the one or more second geographic locations is displayed as overlaying at least a portion of the graphical map.
15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein each indicator is selectable to cause information about a second geographic location corresponding to the indictor to be displayed.
16 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving, from the client system, a search query inputted by the first user at a search interface; and wherein identifying the plurality of second geographic locations comprises identifying a plurality of geographic locations matching the search query.
17 . A system comprising:
one or more processors; and a memory coupled to the processors comprising instructions executable by the processors, the processors being operable when executing the instructions to:
access location data of a first user comprising a plurality of geographic locations, wherein each geographic location is associated with a timestamp;
determine a path of travel of the first user based on one or more of the plurality of geographic locations and their respective timestamps;
identify a plurality of second geographic locations based in part on a proximity of the second geographic locations to the path of travel of the first user;
rank the second geographic locations based on the proximity of each second geographic location to the path of travel of the first user and one or more social factors associated with the respective second geographic location; and
provide a list of one or more of the second geographic locations for display, wherein the second geographic locations are displayed in the list in an order according to their rankings.
18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the processors are further operable when executing the instructions to provide for display a view of a graphical map corresponding to the path of travel, the view comprising indicators for at least one of the one or more second geographic locations, each of the indicators being positioned at respective geographic coordinates on the graphical map corresponding to the respective second geographic location.
19 . One or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying software that is operable when executed to:
access location data of a first user comprising a plurality of geographic locations, wherein each geographic location is associated with a timestamp; determine a path of travel of the first user based on one or more of the plurality of geographic locations and their respective timestamps; identify a plurality of second geographic locations based in part on a proximity of the second geographic locations to the path of travel of the first user; rank the second geographic locations based on the proximity of each second geographic location to the path of travel of the first user and one or more social factors associated with the respective second geographic location; and provide a list of one or more of the second geographic locations for display, wherein the second geographic locations are displayed in the list in an order according to their rankings.
20 . The media of claim 19 , wherein the software is further operable when executed to provide for display a view of a graphical map corresponding to the path of travel, the view comprising indicators for at least one of the one or more second geographic locations, each of the indicators being positioned at respective geographic coordinates on the graphical map corresponding to the respective second geographic location.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
