Abstract
Methods and systems are described for controlling settings of an automation system, such as a home and/or business automation system. According to at least one embodiment, an apparatus for controlling settings of an automation system includes a processor, a memory in electronic communication with the processor, and instructions stored in the memory which are executable by a processor to receive instructions from a user of a home automation system about an intended action by the user, continuously detect behavior of the user with the home automation system, determine whether the intended action has occurred based on the detected behavior, and adaptively update one or more settings of the home automation system when the intended action is determined to have occurred.

21 . A method for controlling settings of a home automation system, comprising:
determining an intended action of a user associated with the home automation system; initiating an active mode based at least in part on determining the intended action, wherein the active mode is configured to continuously monitor actions of the user; determining whether the intended action has occurred based at least in part on initiating the active mode; and updating a setting of the home automation system based at least in part on the occurrence of the intended action.
22 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
initiating a timer based at least in part on initiating the active mode; and canceling the active mode based at least in part on the intended action not occurring within a predetermined time period.
23 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
transmitting a notification to an administrator of the home automation system based at least in part on the intended action not occurring within a second predetermined time period that is different than the predetermined time period.
24 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
receiving, from a sensor associated with the home automation system, data associated with the user, wherein determining the intended action of the user is based at least in part on receiving the data.
25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the data associated with the user comprises motion data, optical data, infrared data, power data, appliance data, light sensor data, or a combination thereof.
26 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
aggregating a plurality of actions of the user at the home automation system, wherein determining the intended action of the user is based at least in part on aggregating the plurality of actions of the user at the home automation system.
27 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the intended action of the user comprises the user entering or exiting a residence associated with the home automation system.
28 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the setting of the home automation system is associated with an HVAC setting, a lighting setting, an alarm setting, a lock mechanism setting, or a combination thereof.
29 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the actions of the user are associated with a location of the user, directional data of the user, an activity of the user, or a combination thereof.
30 . An apparatus for controlling settings of a home automation system, comprising:
a processor; a memory in electronic communication with the processor; and instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable by the processor to:
determine an intended action of a user associated with the home automation system;
initiate an active mode based at least in part on determining the intended action, wherein the active mode is configured to continuously monitor actions of the user;
determine whether the intended action has occurred based at least in part on initiating the active mode; and
update a setting of the home automation system based at least in part on the occurrence of the intended action.
31 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to:
initiate a timer based at least in part on initiating the active mode; and cancel the active mode based at least in part on the intended action not occurring within a predetermined time period.
32 . The apparatus of claim 31 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to:
transmit a notification to an administrator of the home automation system based at least in part on the intended action not occurring within a second predetermined time period that is different than the predetermined time period.
33 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to:
receive, from a sensor associated with the home automation system, data associated with the user, wherein determining the intended action of the user is based at least in part on receiving the data.
34 . The apparatus of claim 33 , wherein the data associated with the user comprises motion data, optical data, infrared data, power data, appliance data, light sensor data, or a combination thereof.
35 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the instructions are further executable by the processor to:
aggregate a plurality of actions of the user at the home automation system, wherein determining the intended action of the user is based at least in part on aggregating the plurality of actions of the user at the home automation system.
36 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the intended action of the user comprises the user entering or exiting a residence associated with the home automation system.
37 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the setting of the home automation system is associated with an HVAC setting, a lighting setting, an alarm setting, a lock mechanism setting, or a combination thereof.
38 . The apparatus of claim 30 , wherein the actions of the user are associated with a location of the user, directional data of the user, an activity of the user, or a combination thereof.
39 . A computer-program product for controlling a home automation system, the computer-program product comprising a non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions executable by a processor to:
determine an intended action of a user associated with the home automation system; initiate an active mode based at least in part on determining the intended action, wherein the active mode is configured to continuously monitor actions of the user; determine whether the intended action has occurred based at least in part on initiating the active mode; and update a setting of the home automation system based at least in part on the occurrence of the intended action.
40 . The computer-program product of claim 39 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to:
