Scarf

Abstract

A scarf ( 10 ) for wearing around the neck (N), provides a hidden pocket ( 34, 60 ) that is readily accessible to the wearer and that can hold a detachable purse ( 60 ). The scarf is formed of a piece of soft and heavy fabric sewn into the form of a tube with a tube centerline ( 36 ) that extends 360° around the wearer's neck. The front ( 72 ) of the tube drapes in a plurality of folds on the chest ( 24 ) of the wearer to conceal a slit ( 50 ) in the tube that can be zipped open and through which the wearer has access to the inside of the tube. To encourage the scarf to lie in multiple folds on the chest, the tube has a taller front end ( 72 ) than rear end ( 73 ).

1 . A scarf to be worn by a wearer around the wearer's neck comprising:
 the scarf being formed from a piece of soft fabric that forms a flat tube that extends 360° about a vertical axis to encircle the wearer's neck, said flat tube having radially inner and outer layers defining tube walls and defining a top and bottom of the scarf;   said tube being closed to form a closed pocket that extends 360 degrees between the inner and outer layers except for having a slit which lies along the top of the scarf with a slit length of a plurality of inches, and including slit fasteners at opposite edges of said slit that can be opened and closed; and   a purse lying in said tube below said slit and a pair of fasteners on said purse that attach to corresponding hangers inside the tube the hangers being located so that when the slit is opened the wearer has access to the purse and the purse can be removed from the tube.   
     
     
         2 . The scarf described in  claim 1  wherein:
 said scarf is formed from a piece of fabric folded to form said bottom of said tube and said inner and outer layers, said inner and outer layers being joined together along the top of said tube thereby forming said closed pocket except along said slit. 
 
     
     
         3 . The scarf of  claim 1  wherein the slit fasteners define a zipper. 
     
     
         4 . The scarf of  claim 1  wherein the slit fasteners define hook and loop fasteners. 
     
     
         5 . The scarf of  claim 1  wherein the hangers are attached inside the tube below the slit whereby the purse is readily accessible from the slit. 
     
     
         6 . The scarf of  claim 1  wherein the hangers inside the tube define a first pair of hangers spaced a selected distance from the slit and further including a second pair of hangers spaced a greater distance from the slit whereby the purse can be selectively attached to or removed from either the first or second pair of hangers;
 whereby the purse can be placed relative to the slit, in a higher position in the tube on the first pair of hangers or in a lower position in the tube on the second pair of hangers. 
 
     
     
         7 . The scarf of  claim 1  said tube having front and rear portions with said front portion having a height that is greater than the height of said rear portion so that more of said soft fabric will drape onto a wearer's chest than onto a wearer's back. 
     
     
         8 . The scarf of  claim 1  said tube having front and rear portions and the top of the tube at the front portion lies inward of the bottom of tube at the front portion whereby when being worn the tube walls collapse forming several folds with upper folds lying radially inward of lower folds. 
     
     
         9 . A scarf worn on a person having a neck, around the person's neck vertical axis, comprising:
 a piece of fabric folded into two layers and into a closed tube with a tube centerline that extends around the vertical axis of the person's neck, said two layers forming radially inner and outer tube walls said tube having a continuous hollow interior;   said tube having front and rear portions that lie respectively on the person's chest and behind the person's neck, said front portion having a greater height than said rear portion so that more of said scarf can drape on the person's chest than on the person's back;   said tube having at the front portion a horizontal slit of a length of a plurality of inches and having fastener means on said slit to allow said slit to be opened and closed; and   a purse lying inside said tube, a pair of fasteners on said purse that attach to corresponding hangers inside the tube the hangers being located so that when the slit is opened the person has access to the purse.   
     
     
         10 . The scarf of  claim 9  said tube having a top and a bottom spaced along the vertical axis and the top at the front portion lies inward of the bottom at the front portion whereby when being worn the tube walls collapse forming several folds with upper folds lying radially inward of lower folds. 
     
     
         11 . The scarf of  claim 10  wherein:
 said fabric is folded to form the bottom of said tube and said inner and outer layers being joined together along the top of said tube except for having the slit left open thereby forming said closed pocket except along said slit. 
 
     
     
         12 . The scarf of  claim 9  wherein the slit fastener means is a zipper. 
     
     
         13 . The scarf of  claim 9  wherein the slit fastener means is hook and loop fasteners. 
     
     
         14 . The scarf of  claim 9  wherein the hangers are attached inside the tube below the slit whereby the purse is readily accessible from the slit. 
     
     
         15 . The scarf of  claim 9  wherein the hangers inside the tube define a first pair of hangers spaced a selected distance from the slit and further including a second pair of hangers spaced a greater distance from the slit whereby the purse can be selectively attached to or removed from either the first or second pair of hangers;
 whereby the purse can be placed relative to the slit, in a higher position in the tube on the first pair of hangers or in a lower position in the tube on the second pair of hangers.
