Abstract
A fabric treating appliance includes a rotatable basket defining a treating chamber for receiving a load of laundry items for treatment. The basket comprises a dual wall, having an inner wall and an outer wall, defining a space therebetween. Liquid within the treating chamber can flow through a plurality of liquid extraction perforations and into the space between the walls, where the liquid can drain downwardly out through an opening in the outer wall and into a tub.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method of operating a fabric treating appliance to extract liquid from laundry in the fabric treating appliance, the method comprising:
rotating a basket having an inner wall with perforations and an outer wall without perforations at a rotational speed great enough such that liquid in laundry within the basket is moved radially by centrifugal force through the perforations; deflecting downwardly the radially moving liquid with the outer wall of the rotating basket; and draining the downwardly deflected liquid out an opening in the outer wall and into a tub.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the draining the liquid out the opening comprises draining the liquid out a gap between the inner and outer walls.
3 . The method of claim 2 further comprising supplying liquid to the basket.
4 . The method of claim 3 wherein the supplying liquid occurs prior to rotating the basket.
5 . The method of claim 3 wherein the supplying liquid comprises supplying liquid until the liquid reaches a level in the basket above an upper edge of the tub.
6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the draining comprises operating a drain pump coupled to the tub.
7 . The method of claim 1 wherein the draining comprises opening a valve fluidly coupling a space between the inner and outer walls to the tub.
8 . The method of claim 1 wherein rotating the basket comprises rotating the basket about a vertical axis.
9 . The method of claim 1 wherein the deflecting downwardly the radially moving liquid comprises radially moving the liquid into the outer wall.
10 . A method of operating a fabric treating appliance to extract liquid from laundry in the fabric treating appliance, the method comprising:
supplying liquid into a basket having an inner wall with perforations and an outer wall without perforations, which is radially spaced from the inner wall to define a inner space; rotating the basket at a rotational speed great enough such that liquid in laundry within the basket is moved radially by centrifugal force through the perforations and into the inner space; opening a valve fluidly coupling the inner space to a tub retaining at least a portion of the basket; deflecting downwardly the radially moving liquid within the inner space to the open valve; and draining the downwardly deflected liquid out through the open valve and into the tub.
11 . The method of claim 10 wherein the supplying liquid to the basket comprises supplying liquid to a level above an upper edge of the tub.
12 . The method of claim 10 further comprising rotating the basket.
13 . The method of claim 12 wherein rotating the basket comprises rotating the basket about a vertical axis.
14 . The method of claim 12 wherein the supplying liquid occurs prior to rotating the basket.
15 . The method of claim 12 wherein the supplying liquid occurs during rotating the basket.
16 . The method of claim 10 wherein the draining comprises operating a drain pump coupled to the tub.
17 . The method of claim 10 wherein rotating the basket comprises rotating the basket about a vertical axis.
18 . The method of claim 10 wherein draining the downwardly deflected liquid further comprises draining the downwardly deflected liquid through a bottom of the basket in addition through the inner space.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
