Abstract

A document signing platform implemented on one or more computers implements a process for capturing data evidencing valid execution of a document. The process comprises: receiving, from an originator computing device, a submission comprising a document to be signed by a signatory; providing the signatory electronic access to the document and to an indication of a set of one or more substantiation actions to be performed; and receiving and recording event data from a signatory device associated with the signatory. The event data includes data associated with affixation of an electronic signature to the document, and additionally includes substantiation event data representing performance of the set of one or more substantiation actions on the signatory device. The process further comprises validating completion of the set of substantiation actions based on the received event data; and generating a certificate of evidence that comprises at least some of the event data.

Claims

. A document signing platform comprising one or more computers programmed to implement a process that comprises:
receiving, from an originator computing device, a submission comprising a document to be signed by a signatory; providing the signatory electronic access to the document and to an indication of a set of one or more substantiation actions to be performed; receiving and recording event data from a signatory device associated with the signatory, the event data including data associated with affixation of an electronic signature to the document, the event data additionally including substantiation event data representing performance of the set of one or more substantiation actions on the signatory device; validating, based on the received event data, completion of the set of substantiation actions; and generating a certificate of evidence that comprises at least some of the event data, the certificate of evidence including identifiers of the document, a document originator, the signatory, and the set of one or more substantiation actions.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the set of substantiation actions comprises generation of a photo, and the event data comprises the photo.

. The document signing platform of claim 2 , wherein the photo is of the signatory.

. The document signing platform of claim 2 , wherein the photo is of an object that includes a bar code.

. The document signing platform of claim 2 , wherein the photo is of a driver's license of the signatory.

. The document signing platform of claim 2 , wherein generating the certificate of evidence comprises including the photo in the certificate of evidence.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the set of substantiation actions comprises generation of a video by the signatory, and the event data comprises the video.

. The document signing platform of claim 7 , wherein the video is of the signatory electronically signing the document.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the submission from the originator device specifies the set of one or more substantiation actions to be performed.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the set of substantiation actions comprises generation of an audio recording, and the event data comprises the audio recording.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the event data specifies dates and times of each of a plurality of events, and wherein said dates and times are included in the certificate of evidence.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the event data comprises an IP address corresponding to the signatory device, and said IP address is included on the certificate of evidence.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the event data comprises GPS based location data specifying a location of the signatory device, and the certificate of evidence includes an indication of said location.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the document signing platform is programmed to determine whether the set of substantiation actions is completed within a specified time limit.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the document signing platform comprises a document submission user interface that provides functionality for the originator to select the set of substantiation actions from a plurality of predefined substantiation actions.

. The document signing platform of claim 15 , wherein the document submission user interface additionally includes functionality for the originator to select, from a plurality of predefined document transmission methods, a document transmission method to be used by the document signing platform to transmit the document for review by the signatory.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the document signing platform comprises a web portal to which the document is uploaded by the originator computing device.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein providing said access to the document comprises transmitting, to an address or account of the signatory, a link for accessing the document as stored on the document signing platform.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the signatory device is a mobile device, and the event data is received from a mobile application running on the mobile device, said mobile application including a user interface for signing the electronic document.

. The document signing platform of claim 1 , wherein the event data is received by the document signing platform substantially in real time as corresponding events occur on the signatory device.
