Abstract
An abrasive tool having a bonded abrasive including a body having abrasive particles contained within a bond material and a barrier layer overlying a portion of the body and configured for removal by hand prior to use.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . An abrasive tool comprising:
a bonded abrasive including a body comprising abrasive particles contained within a bond material; and a barrier layer overlying a portion of the body and adhered to a major surface of the body in a peelable configuration having a peel strength of not greater than 3000 g/in.
2 . The abrasive tool of claim 1 , wherein the barrier layer is configured for removal by hand prior to use.
3 . The abrasive tool of claim 1 , further comprising an adhesive layer disposed between the major surface and the barrier layer, wherein the barrier layer is bonded to the major surface by the adhesive layer.
4 . The abrasive tool of claim 3 , wherein the adhesive layer comprises a pressure-sensitive adhesive.
5 . The abrasive tool of claim 3 , wherein the adhesive layer comprises a silicone based material.
6 . The abrasive tool of claim 5 , wherein the adhesive layer forms a waterproof bond between the barrier layer and the major surface.
7 . The abrasive tool of claim 1 , wherein the barrier layer comprises a metal-containing film.
8 . The abrasive tool of claim 1 , wherein the barrier layer comprises metal foil.
9 . The abrasive tool of claim 1 , wherein the barrier layer comprises a polymer-containing film.
10 . The abrasive tool of claim 1 , wherein the barrier layer comprises a metalized film, an oxide-coated film, or a combination thereof.
11 . The abrasive tool of claim 1 , wherein the barrier layer comprises from an inner surface to an outer surface, a first tie layer, a metal-containing film, a second tie layer, and a polymer-containing film.
12 . The abrasive tool of claim 11 , wherein the polymer-containing film comprises polyester.
13 . The abrasive tool of claim 11 , wherein the barrier layer further comprises a sealant layer.
14 . The abrasive tool of claim 1 , wherein the major surface is a first major surface, and wherein the body comprises a second major surface opposite the first major surface and a peripheral edge extending between the first and second major surfaces, and wherein the barrier layer extends beyond the peripheral edge of the body.
15 . The abrasive tool of claim 14 , further comprising another barrier layer bonded to the second major surface of the body, wherein the barrier layers are attached to one another enclosing the body and forming a seal rim.
16 . The abrasive tool of claim 1 , further comprising a tab extending from the barrier layer in a sealed position and configured to be moved from the sealed position to an unsealed position and release at least a portion of the barrier layer from the portion of the body.
17 . An abrasive tool comprising:
a bonded abrasive including a body comprising abrasive particles contained within a bond material; a barrier layer bonded to a major surface of the body in a peelable configuration; and an adhesive layer disposed between the barrier layer and the major surface, wherein the adhesive layer forms a water-proof bond between the barrier layer and the major surface.
18 . The abrasive tool of claim 17 , wherein the adhesive layer comprises a silicone based material.
19 . The abrasive tool of claim 17 , wherein the barrier layer comprises a metal-containing film.
20 . The abrasive tool of claim 17 , wherein the barrier layer comprises from an inner surface to an outer surface, a sealant layer, a metal-containing film, and a polymer-containing film.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
