Abstract

A portable device is configured to perform a touch input method. The method includes determining whether an input for selecting a specific divided area is detected in a divided touch area on a screen divided into a plurality of areas. The method also includes, if the input for selecting the specific divided area is detected, moving the selected specific divided area to the divided touch area. The method further includes, if a specific input occurs in the selected specific divided area moved to the divided touch area, performing a function of an item indicated by the specific input.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . An electronic device, the electronic device comprising:
 a display; and a controller configured to:
 display a user interface screen having a text input portion via the display,
 in response to a first user input, move the user interface screen downward such that the text input portion is relocated from a first area to a second area of the display, the second area being lower than the first area, and
 in response to a second user input detected in the text input portion of the user interface screen, move the user interface screen upward such that the text input portion is relocated from the second area to the first area of the display with a keyboard provided in a third area of the display, the third area being lower than the first area.

         2 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first user input comprises a predefined pattern input.

         3 . The electronic device of claim 2 , wherein the predefined pattern comprises a tap input tapping a predefined portion of the electronic device at least two times.

         4 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the second user input comprises a touch input on the text input portion.

         5 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to control the display to display an upper portion of the user interface screen by moving the user interface screen.

         6 . The electronic device of claim 5 , wherein the controller is configured to control the display to hide a portion other than the upper portion of the user interface screen from the display by moving the user interface screen.

         7 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to control the display to display the user interface screen by executing an application.

         8 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first area is an initial area at which the text input portion is first displayed in the user interface screen.

         9 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein a distance between the first area and the second area corresponds to a distance by which the user interface screen is moved.

         10 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the third area corresponds to a lower portion of the display, and
 wherein the keyboard overlaps with a lower portion of the user interface screen.

         11 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the keyboard is a QWERTY keyboard.

         12 . A portable device, the portable device comprising:
 a touch screen configured to display images and content; a controller configured to:
 detect a first touch input on an input interface of the portable device when a display screen is displayed on the touch screen, wherein the first touch input comprises a predetermined input;
 relocate at least a portion of the display screen to a lower part of the touch screen and display a display window on an upper part of the touch screen;
 detect a second touch input on the touch screen of the portable device; and
 relocate the at least a portion of the display screen to the upper part of the touch screen.

         13 . The portable device of claim 12 , wherein the predetermined input comprises a number of touches.

         14 . The portable device of claim 12 , wherein, in response to detecting the predetermined input, the controller is configured to move the content portion of the display screen and the text input portion of the display screen to one of the two parts.

         15 . The portable device of claim 14 , wherein, after detecting the predetermined input, the text input portion of the display screen is displayed in the other of the two parts.

         16 . The portable device of claim 12 , wherein, if the predetermined input is detected, the controller is configured to move the display screen downward from the upper part of the touch screen to the lower part of the touch screen.

         17 . The portable device of claim 12 , wherein the touch screen comprises a keyboard configured to receive a text, numerical or symbol input.

         18 . The portable device of claim 12 , wherein, after the display screen is moved, if another touch is detected input via the input interface, a size of a display area of the touch screen returns to an original size.

         19 . A portable device, the portable device comprising:
 a touch screen configured to display content; and a controller configured to:
 detect a first touch input via a touch input unit of the portable device when a display screen is displayed on the touch screen;
 relocate at least a portion of the display screen to a lower part of the touch screen;
 detect a second touch input on a text input portion displayed on the touch screen; and
 in response to the second touch input, display a keypad interface on the touch screen, the keypad interface configured to enable a user to select text for input into the text input portion.

         20 . The portable device of claim 19 , wherein the first touch input comprises a number of touches.

         21 . The portable device of claim 19 , wherein, wherein, in response to detecting the predetermined input, the controller is configured to move the content portion of the display screen and the text input portion of the display screen to one of the two parts; and wherein, after detecting the predetermined input, the text input portion of the display screen is displayed in the other of the two parts.

         22 . The portable device of claim 19 , wherein, if the first touch input is detected, the controller is configured to move the display screen downward from the upper part of the touch screen to the lower part of the touch screen.
