Abstract

A toy vehicle track system is provided. The system includes a plurality of track sections, each track section formed within a section of a regular polygonal grid unit and having at least two terminal ends at edges of the regular polygonal grid unit. The terminal ends of each track section include interlocking structures that interlock with interlocking structures of at least a second track section. The plurality of track sections includes at least a straight track section, a curved track section, and a Y-shaped track section. Each track section is composed of foam.

1 . A toy vehicle track system comprising:
 a plurality of track sections, each track section formed within a section of a regular polygonal grid unit and having at least two terminal ends at edges of the regular polygonal grid unit, the terminal ends of each track section including interlocking structures that interlock with interlocking structures of at least a second track section, the plurality of track sections including at least a straight track section, a curved track section, and a Y-shaped track section, wherein   each track section is composed of foam.   
     
     
         2 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , wherein the regular polygonal grid unit belongs to a regular polygonal grid having a pattern selected from the group consisting of hexagonal, rectilinear, and triangular. 
     
     
         3 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , wherein the foam is ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam. 
     
     
         4 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , wherein the foam has a thickness in a range from ⅜ inches to ½ inches. 
     
     
         5 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , further comprising the plurality of track sections including at least a transitioning track section curved in a direction perpendicular to a flat upper surface of a flat track section. 
     
     
         6 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 5 , wherein the transitioning track section is configured to connect at least a first track section at an angle relative to at least the second track section, wherein the angle is 90 degrees. 
     
     
         7 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 5 , wherein at least one track section is a first wall-mounted track section. 
     
     
         8 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 7 , wherein the first wall-mounted track section is connected to at least one floor track section, the first wall-mounted track section and the at least one floor track section connected via at least one transitioning track section. 
     
     
         9 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 7 , wherein the first wall-mounted track section is connected to at least a second wall-mounted track section, the first wall-mounted track section and the second wall-mounted track section connected via at least one transitioning track section. 
     
     
         10 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , wherein the interlocking structures connect at least a first track section with at least the second track section to form a dovetail joint. 
     
     
         11 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 10 , wherein, for the straight track sections and curved track sections as viewed from above a top side, a projection of the dovetail joint extends from a distal end of a right-end short edge of each track section and a recess of the dovetail joint extends from a distal end of a left-end short edge of each track section, such that the interlocking structures interface interchangeably when oriented with the top side up. 
     
     
         12 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 11 , wherein lane indicators are included on a top surface of each track section to indicate at least two lanes on each track section, the projections of the dovetail joints extending once per indicated lane of each track section. 
     
     
         13 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , wherein a width of the straight track section is in a range of 5 inches to 6 inches and a length of the straight track section is in a range of 11 inches to 12 inches. 
     
     
         14 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 2 , wherein a hexagon that is the regular polygonal grid unit belonging to the regular polygonal grid having the hexagonal pattern has a length along one side in a range of 6 inches to 7 inches, a length between two opposite sides in a range of 11 inches to 12 inches, and a length between two opposite corners in a range of 13 inches to 14 inches. 
     
     
         15 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , wherein at least one track section is a banked track section having banked curves. 
     
     
         16 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , further comprising at least a U-shaped track section comprising the sections of a plurality of the regular polygonal grid units. 
     
     
         17 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , wherein the foam is textured on at least one surface of at least one track section. 
     
     
         18 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 1 , further comprising at least one track section having an inclined surface portion inclined in a direction perpendicular to a flat upper surface of a flat track section at an angle of inclination ranging from 10 degrees to 40 degrees. 
     
     
         19 . A toy vehicle track system comprising:
 a plurality of track sections, each track section comprising a section of a regular polygonal grid unit and having at least two terminal ends at boundaries of the regular polygonal grid unit, the terminal ends of each track section including interlocking structures that interlock with interlocking structures of at least a second track section, the plurality of track sections including at least a straight track section, a curved track section, and a Y-shaped track section, wherein   the regular polygonal grid unit belongs to a regular polygonal grid having a pattern selected from the group consisting of hexagonal, rectilinear, and triangular,   the interlocking structures connect at least a first track section with at least the second track section to form a dovetail joint, and   each track section is composed of foam.   
     
     
         20 . The toy vehicle track system of  claim 19 , wherein
 the foam has a thickness in a range from ⅜ inches to ½ inches, and   a hexagon that is the regular polygonal grid unit belonging to the regular polygonal grid having the hexagonal pattern has a length along one side in a range of 6 inches to 7 inches, a length between two opposite sides in a range of 11 inches to 12 inches, and a length between two opposite corners in a range of 13 inches to 14 inches.
