Claims

Abstract

A modular germicidal light system for use in a plenum of a cooling apparatus in which an entrained stream of air flows in a predetermined direction. The system comprises a support assembly comprising at least one elongate member; at least one lamp assembly constructed and arranged to mount to at least one elongate member of the support assembly, and comprising a linear germicidal light source having a longitudinal axis extending at an acute light angle relative to a plane substantially perpendicular to the direction of the flow of said stream of air. Each of said at least one elongate members has a longitudinal axis, and a distal end and a proximal end along said longitudinal axis. The system further comprises one or more anchor members for receiving at least one of the ends of each elongate member for connecting said members to an interior surface of the plenum.

1 . A modular germicidal light system for use in a plenum of a cooling apparatus in which a stream of air is entrained and flows in a predetermined direction, the system comprising:
 a. A support assembly comprising at least one elongate member;   b. At least one lamp assembly, each lamp assembly constructed and arranged to mount to at least a portion of the at least one elongate member of the support assembly, each lamp assembly comprising a linear germicidal light source having a longitudinal axis;
 i. wherein the linear germicidal light source of each lamp assembly extends such that the longitudinal axis of the linear germicidal light source is positioned at an acute light angle relative to a plane substantially perpendicular to the direction of flow of said stream of air 
   c. Each of said at least one elongate members having a longitudinal axis and a distal end and a proximal end along said longitudinal axis;   d. One or more anchor members for receiving at least one of the ends of each of said at least one elongate members for connecting said elongate members to an interior surface of the plenum.   
     
     
         2 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 1  wherein said at least one elongate member comprises a plurality of elongate members positioned within a common plane. 
     
     
         3 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 1  wherein each lamp assembly further comprises a housing defining at least one socket for operative mounting of the linear germicidal light source. 
     
     
         4 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 3 , wherein each light source has a distal end constructed and arranged to mount within one socket of the housing. 
     
     
         5 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 3 , further comprising a power supply and at least one ballast device electrically coupled to the power supply and the linear germicidal light source. 
     
     
         6 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 3 , further comprising a power supply and at least one ballast device electrically coupled to the power supply and the at least one socket of the housing. 
     
     
         7 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 1  wherein said one or more anchor members comprises a second elongate member positioned substantially perpendicular to said at least one elongate member. 
     
     
         8 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 7  wherein said at least one elongate member comprises a plurality of elongate members positioned within a common plane and said second elongate member is positioned within the common plane. 
     
     
         9 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 1 , wherein the acute light angle is between about 10° to less than about 90°. 
     
     
         10 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 1 , wherein the acute light angle is between about 20° to about 80°. 
     
     
         11 . The modular germicidal light system of  claim 1 , wherein the acute light angle is between about 30° to about 70°.
