Processes and Compositions Obtained from the Solanum Genus of Plants

Abstract

Pure saponins and processes for making such saponins are described herein. In addition, cosmetic compositions, such as skin care compositions, comprising such saponins and methods for improving skin health and appearance with such skincare compositions are also described herein.

 a. treating plants from the  solanum  genus with a liquid comprising a first alcohol to form a first alcohol solution and plant material;   b. treating the plant material with a first liquid comprising an acid to form an acid solution;   c. treating the acid solution with the first alcohol solution to get a combined solution;   d. treating the combined solution with a base to get a resulting solid;   e. treating the resulting solid with a third liquid comprising a second alcohol to get a second alcohol solution;   f. treating the second alcohol solution with a fourth liquid comprising a polarity modifying agent to form the mixture of saponins in a solid phase.   
     
     
         42 . A solid phase wherein at least 92% of the solid phase is a mixture of two or more saponins.

 c. treating the acid solution with the first alcohol solution to get a combined solution; 
 d. treating the combined solution with a base to get a resulting solid; 
 e. treating the resulting solid with a third liquid comprising a second alcohol to get a second alcohol solution; 
 f. treating the second alcohol solution with a fourth liquid comprising a polarity modifying agent to form a mixture of the saponins in a solid phase.

The composition of  claim 59  wherein the one or more cosmetically acceptable excipients comprise one or more Class A Excipients, one or more Class B Excipients, one or more Class C Excipients, one or more Class D Excipients, one or more Class E Excipients, and one or more Class F Excipients.

 the amount of aloe vera is between about 0.1% and 15%;   the amount of vitamin E is between about 0.1 and 5%;   the amount of triethanolamine is between about 0.5% and 2.5%;   the amount of ethanol is between about 0.5% and 3%;   the amount of urea is between about 3% and 10%;   the amount of salicylic acid is between about 0.5% and 2%.

 sodium acrylates copolymer,   paraffinum liquidum, and   PPG-1 trideceth-6.

         110 . The solid phase of  claim 58 , which comprises a mixture of about 40.3% Solasonine and about 58.0% Solamargine; and wherein the purity of the mixture is about 98.3%.
