Payment code generation using a wireless beacon at a merchant location
Abstract
There are provided systems and method for payment code generation using a wireless beacon at a merchant location. A check-in at a merchant location may be completed using a wireless beacon at the merchant location with a communication device. After check-in a user using the communication device may request a payment code be generated from a payment provider that enables the user to have the payment code scanned by a merchant scanner at a point of sale device and complete payment for items with the merchant. The request to generate the payment code may be transmitted from the communication device to the wireless beacon, where the wireless beacon transmits the code over a network connection with the payment provider. Once the code is generated, the wireless beacon may receive the code and transmit the code back to the communication device.

2 . A system comprising:
a non-transitory memory; and one or more hardware processors coupled to the non-transitory memory and configured to read instructions from the non-transitory memory to cause the system to perform operations comprising:
receiving an indication of a check-in of a communication device associated with a user at a merchant location;
in response to the indication, generating a payment code for processing a payment based on a payment account for the user;
detecting a wireless connection between the communication device and a wireless beacon associated with at least the merchant location;
communicating the payment code to the communication device via the wireless connection;
receiving the payment code from a merchant device at the merchant location; and
in response to receiving the payment code, processing a transaction based on the payment account.
3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the payment account comprises financial data associated with one of a payment card or a financial account, and wherein the payment code is generated based on the financial data.
4 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the payment account further comprises a limit on payment code generation, and wherein the payment code is further generated for the payment based on the limit.
5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein prior to processing the transaction, the operations further comprise:
determining that the transaction is within the limit, wherein the transaction is further processed based on determining that the transaction is within the limit.
6 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the limit comprises one of a location limit, a merchant identification limit, or a transaction amount limit.
7 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the payment code is encoded in a visual code image displayable by the communication device.
8 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the wireless beacon is associated with a plurality of merchant locations including the merchant location, and wherein the payment code is generated for use at the plurality of merchant locations.
9 . A method comprising:
receiving a request to generate a payment code from a wireless beacon via a wireless connection between a communication device and the wireless beacon, wherein the request comprises an amount for a transaction requested by a merchant device coupled to the wireless beacon; generating the payment code based on the request and a previous check-in by the communication device, wherein the payment code comprises encoded data for processing the amount using an account of a user associated with the communication device; communicating the payment code to the communication device; receiving the payment code from the merchant device; and based on receiving the payment code, processing the amount for transaction using the account.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the request further comprises a confirmation of the amount for the transaction from the communication device.
11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the previous check-in comprises a passive check-in processed in response to detecting the wireless connection between the communication device and the wireless beacon, wherein the passive check-in comprises an identifier associated with the account received via the wireless connection independent of input by the user to the communication device.
12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein prior to receiving the request to generate the payment code, the previous check-in for the communication device is performed with one of a merchant location for the merchant device or a plurality of merchant locations.
13 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
determining a payment code limit on the payment code based on the account for the user; and determining that the transaction is within the payment code limit, wherein the payment code is generated in response to determining that the transaction is within the payment code limit.
14 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the payment code comprises one of an alphanumeric code, a bar code, or a QR code, and wherein the communicating the payment code to the communication device causes the communication device to display the payment code.
15 . The method of claim 9 , further comprising:
invalidating the payment code after one of detecting that the wireless connection between the communication device and the wireless beacon has ended or determining that a time period for validity of the payment code has ended.
16 . The method of claim 9 , wherein prior to generating the payment code, the method further comprises:
determining a credit authorization for a credit amount based on the account of the user, wherein the payment code is generated based on the credit authorization.
17 . The method of claim 9 , wherein prior to generating the payment code, the method further comprises:
determining a merchant device identifier for the merchant device, wherein the payment code is generated based on the merchant device identifier.
18 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium having stored thereon machine-readable instructions executable to cause a machine to perform operations comprising:
processing a check-in request for a communication device at a merchant location through a wireless beacon at the merchant location, the check-in request processed via a wireless connection between the communication device and the wireless beacon; receiving, via the wireless beacon, a request to generate a payment code from the communication device, the request comprising an amount for the payment code generated by a merchant device connected to the wireless beacon; generating the payment code based on a payment account associated with the communication device; communicating, via the wireless beacon, the payment code to the communication device; receiving the payment code from the merchant device; and in response to receiving the payment code, processing a transaction for the amount using the payment account.
19 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the request to generate the payment code is received with a confirmation of the amount for the payment code from the communication device.
20 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the check-in request comprises a passive check-in request processed independent of affirmative user action on the communication device when the communication device is within a wireless signal range of the wireless beacon, and wherein the passive check-in request comprises an identifier associated with the payment account.
21 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the payment code comprises tokenized visual data for output to the merchant device, and wherein the tokenized visual data is scannable by an input device associated with the merchant device.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
