Abstract

A method and apparatus for biometric data capture are provided. The apparatus includes in interactive head-mounted eyepiece worn by a user that includes an optical assembly through which a user views a surrounding environment and displayed content. The optical assembly comprises a corrective element that corrects the user's view of the surrounding environment and an integrated processor for handling content to the user. An integrated optical sensor captures biometric data when the eyepiece is positioned so that a nearby individual is proximate to the eyepiece. Biometric data is captured using the eyepiece and is transmitted to a remote processing facility for interpretation. The remote processing facility interprets the captured biometric data and generates display content based on the interpretation. This display content is delivered to the eyepiece and displayed to the user.

1 . An apparatus for biometric data capture, comprising:
 an interactive head-mounted display device comprising:
 an optical assembly through which a surrounding environment and displayed content is viewable; 
 a processor; 
 an integrated optical sensor assembly comprising instructions executable by the processor to capture a facial image of an individual in the surrounding environment; 
 a face detection facility comprising instructions executable by the processor to identify the individual based on the facial image; and 
 a reporting facility comprising instructions executable by the processor to position information on the optical assembly about the individual at a location corresponding to a position of the individual in the surrounding environment. 
   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a transmission facility comprising instructions executable to transmit data derived from the captured facial image of the individual to a remote computing facility. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor to identify the individual based on the facial image comprise instructions executable to obtain an identification of the individual from the remote computing facility. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 2 , wherein the remote computing facility comprises a social networking website. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 4 , wherein the instructions executable to transmit data derived from the captured facial image of the individual to the remote computing facility comprise instructions executable to send a request to the social networking website for information regarding members of the social networking site nearby the apparatus, and capture the facial image of the individual responsive to the social networking website sending information regarding members of the social networking website nearby the apparatus. 
     
     
         6 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , further comprising a facility configured to obtain additional biometric data for identifying the individual. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus of  claim 6 , wherein the additional biometric data comprises an iris image of the individual. 
     
     
         8 . The apparatus of  claim 6 , wherein the additional biometric data comprises an audio sample of the individual. 
     
     
         9 . The apparatus of  claim 6 , wherein the additional biometric data comprises an additional facial image of the individual. 
     
     
         10 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the instructions executable by the processor to position information on the optical assembly are executable to to obtain a social networking website profile of the individual and position information from the social networking profile on the optical assembly. 
     
     
         11 . On a see-through head mounted display device comprising an integrated optical imaging facility and an optical assembly through which displayed content and a surrounding environment are viewable, a method, comprising
 capturing a facial image of an individual in a surrounding environment via the integrated optical imaging facility;   identifying the individual based on the facial image; and   displaying information on the optical assembly about the individual at a location corresponding to a position of the individual in the surrounding environment.   
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein obtaining the identity of the individual comprises transmitting the captured facial image to a remote computing facility, and receiving the obtained identity from the remote computing facility. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 12 , wherein the remote computing facility comprises a social networking website. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein capturing the facial image of the individual comprises sending a request to the social networking website for information regarding members of the social networking website nearby the optical assembly, and capturing the facial image of the individual responsive to the social networking website sending information regarding members of the social networking site nearby the optical assembly. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein the individual is identified further based on additional biometric data. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the additional biometric data comprises an iris image of the individual. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 15 , wherein the additional biometric data comprises an audio sample of the individual. 
     
     
         18 . An apparatus for biometric data capture, comprising:
 an interactive head-mounted display device comprising:   an optical assembly through which a surrounding environment and displayed content is viewable;   a processor;   an integrated optical sensor assembly comprising instructions executable by the processor to capture a facial image of an individual in the surrounding environment;   a face detection facility comprising instructions executable by the processor to identify the individual based on the facial image by transmitting data derived from the facial image of the individual to a remote computing facility, and receiving the identity of the individual from the remote computing facility; and   a reporting facility comprising instructions executable by the processor to position information on the optical assembly about the individual at a location corresponding to a position of the individual in the surrounding environment.   
     
     
         19 . The apparatus of  claim 18 , wherein the remote computing facility comprises a social networking website. 
     
     
         20 . The apparatus of  claim 18 , further comprising instructions executable to acquire additional biometric data for the individual to identify the individual.
