Abstract
Systems, methods, and apparatuses for assisting with submucosal dissections include a retraction strip body. The retraction strip body is formed at least partially from a deformable material. The retraction strip body is capable of being selectively moved between a first condition and a second condition. In the first condition, the retraction strip body is capable of engaging a target patient tissue. In the second condition, the retraction strip body is capable of retracting the target patient tissue. At least one tissue engagement member is located on the retraction strip body.

21 . A tissue retraction device, comprising:
a deformable retraction strip body having a pair of laterally spaced end portions, the retraction strip body configured to be deformed to and retained in:
a first condition, wherein the retraction strip body defines a first radius of curvature and is configured to engage tissue; and
a second condition, wherein the retraction strip body defines a second radius of curvature and is configured to apply a force on the tissue to retract the tissue; and
a first tissue engagement member disposed on a first end portion of the pair of laterally spaced end portions and a second tissue engagement member disposed on a second end portion of the pair of laterally spaced end portions, the first and second tissue engagement members configured to releasably anchor the retraction strip body to the tissue.
22 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 21 , wherein the first and second tissue engagement members move toward one another upon the retraction strip body being deformed to the second condition.
23 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 21 , wherein the first and second tissue engagement members are one of a barb, a clip, a hook, or an adhesive.
24 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 21 , wherein the deformable retraction strip body defines an aperture therethrough between the pair of laterally spaced end portions.
25 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 21 , wherein the retraction strip body is formed of an elastic material and is configured to deform to at least one of the first or second conditions in response to elastic deformation of the retraction strip body.
26 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 21 , wherein the retraction strip body is formed of at least one of an elastic material, a shape memory material, or a fabric material.
27 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 21 , wherein the retraction strip body is formed of a flexible stainless steel bi-stable spring band.
28 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 21 , wherein the retraction strip body is configured to deform to a sheath delivery condition for placement within a lumen of a sheath.
29 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 21 , wherein at least one of the first or second tissue engagement members includes a pair of engagement members moveable between a flattened condition and a flared condition extending in opposing directions from the retraction strip body.
30 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 21 , wherein the retraction strip body is formed of a temperature-responsive shape memory material and configured to:
be preset in the second condition; deform to the first condition from the second condition when the retraction strip body is at a temperature below a transition temperature; and automatically return to the second condition when the retraction strip body is at a temperature above the transition temperature.
31 . A tissue retraction device, comprising:
a deformable retraction strip body having a pair of laterally spaced end portions and configured to move between a first condition, wherein the retraction strip body defines a first radius of curvature and is configured to engage the outer surface of a mandrel, and a second condition, wherein the retraction strip body defines a second radius of curvature and is configured to apply a force on the tissue to retract tissue; and a first tissue engagement member disposed on a first end portion of the pair of laterally spaced end portions and a second tissue engagement member disposed on a second end portion of the pair of laterally spaced end portions, the first and second tissue engagement members configured to move between a flattened condition and a flared condition to releasably anchor the retraction strip body to the tissue.
32 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 31 , wherein the first and second tissue engagement members extend laterally from a longitudinal axis defined by the retraction strip body when the first and second tissue engagement members are in the flared condition.
33 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 31 , wherein the retraction strip body is configured to be deformed to and retained in at least one of the first or second conditions.
34 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 31 , wherein the deformable retraction strip body defines an aperture therethrough between the pair of laterally spaced end portions.
35 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 31 , wherein the first and second tissue engagement members move toward one another upon movement of the retraction strip body to the second condition.
36 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 31 , wherein the retraction strip body is formed of a flexible stainless steel bi-stable spring band.
37 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 31 , wherein the retraction strip body is formed of at least one of an elastic material, a shape memory material, or a fabric material.
38 . The tissue retraction device according to claim 31 , wherein the retraction strip body is formed of a temperature responsive shape memory material and configured to:
be preset in the second condition; move to the first condition from the second condition when the retraction strip body is at a temperature below a transition temperature; and automatically return to the second condition when the retraction strip body is at a temperature above the transition temperature.
39 . A tissue retraction device, comprising:
a flexible stainless steel retraction strip body configured to be moved to and retained in:
a first condition, wherein the retraction strip body defines a first radius of curvature and is configured to engage tissue; and
a second condition, wherein the retraction strip body defines a second radius of curvature and is configured to apply a force on the tissue to retract the tissue; and
at least one tissue engagement member configured to extend laterally from a longitudinal axis defined by the retraction strip body when the retraction strip body is in the second condition to releasably anchor the retraction strip body to the tissue.
