Devices and methods for delivering medicaments from a multi-chamber container
Abstract
An apparatus includes a housing, a medicament container, and a movable assembly. The movable assembly includes a first movable member and a second movable member. The second movable member is configured to move relative to the first movable member to move the movable assembly from a first configuration to a second configuration. A distal end portion of the second movable member is configured to move a plunger disposed within the medicament container in a distal direction when the movable assembly is moved to the second configuration. The movable assembly is configured to move between a first position and a second position to move the medicament container within the housing between a first container position and a second container position.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method, comprising:
moving a safety member of a medicament delivery device, the medicament delivery device including a housing and a medicament container assembly disposed within the housing, the safety member being coupled to at least a distal portion of the housing and having an actuation member extending into the housing; moving a mixing actuation member disposed within the housing, the moving including engagement of a protrusion of the safety member with a catch of the mixing actuation member to transfer motion from the safety member to the mixing actuation member; moving a retention protrusion of the mixing actuation member from a first configuration to a second configuration to expand a mixing spring; and moving a mixing piston from a first position to a second position to engage a first elastomeric member such that a first substance within a first volume of the medicament container assembly is introduced to a second substance within a second volume of the medicament container assembly.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the moving of the mixing piston is performed in response to an expansion force of the mixing spring.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the moving of the retention protrusion includes translating the retention protrusion laterally relative to the housing in response to the protrusion of the safety member moving axially relative to the housing.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the moving of the safety member includes exposing an opening defined on the distal portion of the housing.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising mixing the first substance and the second substance.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising moving a base of the medicament delivery device in a proximal direction and extending a distal portion of a needle beyond the base such that a mixture of the first substance and the second substance can be delivered via the needle.
7 . A method, comprising:
removing a safety member from a medicament delivery device, the medicament delivery device including a housing, a base, an energy storage device, a needle, and a medicament container assembly disposed within the housing, the safety member being removably coupled to at least a distal portion of the housing and having an actuation member extending into the housing; placing the base of the medicament delivery device against a target location of a patient; pressing the base against the target location such that the base moves proximally relative to the housing of the medicament delivery device and causes the needle to extend through the base; and inserting the needle extended through the base into the target location of the patient.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein removing of the safety member transfers motion via the actuation member to a mixing actuation member disposed within the housing and the motion of the mixing actuation member causes a retention protrusion of the mixing actuation member to move from a first configuration to a second configuration.
9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein movement of the retention protrusion from the first configuration to the second configuration enables a mixing spring to expand.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein expansion of the mixing spring initiates a mixing of a first substance and a second substance stored within the medicament container assembly.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the first substance is a diluent and the second substance is a medicament.
12 . An apparatus, comprising:
a housing; a medicament container disposed within the housing; and a movable assembly including a first movable member and a second movable member, the second movable member configured to move relative to the first movable member to change the movable assembly from a first configuration to a second configuration, a distal end portion of the second movable member configured to move a plunger in a distal direction within the medicament container when the movable assembly changes from the first configuration to the second configuration, the movable assembly configured to move the medicament container within the housing from a first medicament container position to a second medicament container position when the movable assembly moves from a first position within the housing to a second position within the housing.
13 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein:
the plunger is a first plunger disposed within a proximal end portion of the medicament container, the medicament container includes a second plunger disposed therein spaced apart from the first plunger, the first plunger, a portion of the medicament container and the second plunger collectively defining, at least in part, a first medicament containing portion containing a first substance, the second plunger and a distal end portion of the medicament container collectively defining, at least in part, a second medicament containing portion containing a second substance.
14 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the second substance is selected from the group consisting of adalimumab, atropine, buprenorphine, certolizumab, cetirizine, diazepam, diphenhydramine, epinephrine, etanercept, exenatide, glucagon, haloperidol, hydroxyzine, insulin, ketorolac, lixisenatide, lorazepam, methotrexate, midazolam, obidoxime chloride, pralidoxime chloride, and combinations thereof.
15 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the second substance is a substantially dry glucagon formulation, wherein the dry glucagon formulation further comprises a carbohydrate.
16 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the movable assembly is configured to move the medicament container within the housing after the movable assembly is in the second configuration.
17 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein:
a length of the movable assembly increases when the second movable member moves relative to the first movable member.
18 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein:
a proximal end portion of the second movable member is disposed outside of a proximal end portion of the first movable member when the movable assembly is in the first configuration, the proximal end portion of the second movable member is disposed outside of a distal end portion of the first movable member when the movable assembly is in the second configuration.
19 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein:
the first movable member includes a piston portion configured to move within the medicament container to expel a medicament from the medicament container when the medicament container is in the second medicament container position, a portion of the second movable member configured to be slidably disposed within the piston portion of the first movable member.
20 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein:
the second movable member includes a retention portion configured to limit movement of the second movable member relative to the first movable member.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
