Claims

Abstract

In a wireless communication device, an operating system directs a first wireless transceiver to support a user application. The first wireless transceiver exchanges user data for the user application. In the wireless communication device, an internet browser identifies when the first wireless transceiver supports the user application and when a second wireless transceiver has wireless connectivity but does not support the user application. The internet browser generates a user prompt to use of the second wireless transceiver to support the user application. The internet browser receives a positive user response to the user prompt and responsively directs the operating system to use the second wireless transceiver to support the user application. The operating system directs the second wireless transceiver to support the user application. In the wireless communication device, the second wireless transceiver exchanges additional user data for the user application.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method of operating a wireless communication device to control wireless communications for a user application, the method comprising:
 a processing system comprising circuitry executing an operating system, an internet browser, and the user application;   the operating system directing a first wireless transceiver to support the user application;   the first wireless transceiver exchanging user data for the user application;   the internet browser identifying when the first wireless transceiver supports the user application and when a second wireless transceiver has wireless connectivity but does not support the user application, and in response, the internet browser generating a user notice prompting use of the second wireless transceiver to support the user application;   the internet browser receiving a positive user response to the user notice and responsively directing the operating system to use the second wireless transceiver to support the user application;   the operating system directing the second wireless transceiver to support the user application; and   the second wireless transceiver exchanging additional user data for the user application.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the second wireless transceiver comprises an Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 transceiver. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the second wireless transceiver comprises a Bluetooth transceiver. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the second wireless transceiver comprises a Long Term Evolution (LTE) transceiver. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the first wireless transceiver comprises a Long Term Evolution (LTE) transceiver. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the first wireless transceiver comprises a Long Term Evolution (LTE) transceiver and the second wireless transceiver comprises an Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 transceiver. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the user application comprises a voice calling application. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the user application comprises a video application. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the user application comprises a gaming application. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the user application comprises a social media application. 
     
     
         11 . A wireless communication device to control wireless communications for a user application, the wireless communication device comprising:
 a processing system comprising circuitry configured to execute an operating system, an internet browser, and the user application;   the operating system configured to direct a first wireless transceiver to support the user application;   the first wireless transceiver configured to exchange user data for the user application;   the internet browser configured to identify when the first wireless transceiver supports the user application and when a second wireless transceiver has wireless connectivity but does not support the user application, and in response, the internet browser configured to generate a user notice prompting use of the second wireless transceiver to support the user application;   the internet browser configured to receive a positive user response to the user notice and responsively direct the operating system to use the second wireless transceiver to support the user application;   the operating system configured to direct the second wireless transceiver to support the user application; and   the second wireless transceiver configured to exchange additional user data for the user application.   
     
     
         12 . The wireless communication device of  claim 11  wherein the second wireless transceiver comprises an Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 transceiver. 
     
     
         13 . The wireless communication device of  claim 11  wherein the second wireless transceiver comprises a Bluetooth transceiver. 
     
     
         14 . The wireless communication device of  claim 11  wherein the second wireless transceiver comprises a Long Term Evolution (LTE) transceiver.
