Abstract

A sight aid including a supplementary sight alignment indicator disposed between an ocular lens and a reticle along the optical axis of a scope for forming a composite image with the image of the sight alignment indicator and the target image being viewable together by the user by means of the ocular lens.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed herein is:

1 . A sight aid for aiding aiming of a projectile device with respect to a target, said sight aid adapted to a telescope having a housing, an objective lens mounted in the housing at one end thereof for forming a target image, an ocular lens mounted in the housing at an opposite end thereof and having image-erecting optics, a reticle mounted within the housing, wherein the objective and ocular lenses define an optical axis through the housing and the image-erecting optics are mounted between the objective and ocular lenses on the optical axis for erecting the image formed by the objective lens, where the erected image is formed for viewing by a user, the reticle having a sight alignment indicator on the optical axis, an image thereof being aligned with the target image formed by the objective lens and the image-erecting optics within the housing to facilitate alignment of the telescope with the target, said sight aid comprising:
a supplementary sight alignment indicator disposed between the ocular lens and the reticle along said optical axis for forming a composite image with the image of the sight alignment indicator and the target image being viewable together by the user by means of the ocular lens, wherein said supplementary sight alignment indicator is disposed at a distance from the reticle, whereby an indication of deviation of said images of said axially-centered sight alignment indicator and axially-centered supplementary sight alignment indicator and said target image along the optical axis is provided to the user such that an action can be taken to correct such deviation to assure accurate alignment of the optical axis of the telescope with the target.

2 . The sight aid of claim 1 , wherein said supplementary sight alignment indicator is configured to be slidingly and removably coupled to a rail such that said distance is adjustable.

3 . The sight aid of claim 1 , wherein said supplementary sight alignment indicator is configured to be removably attachable to the telescope.

4 . The sight aid of claim 1 , wherein said distance is no more than about 1 inch.

5 . The sight aid of claim 1 , wherein said supplementary sight alignment indicator comprises a pointed post comprising a post having a pointed end axially-centered with respect to the sight alignment indicator.

6 . The sight aid of claim 5 , wherein said pointed post comprises a post having a fixed width for substantially the entirety of its length and tapers inwardly and centrally to said pointed end.

7 . The sight aid of claim 5 , wherein said pointed post comprises a cross-sectional profile that tapers inwardly and centrally from a base at a first end to said pointed end at a second end.

8 . The sight aid of claim 5 , further comprising a resilient circular frame disposed in a plane and having an opening, said pointed post is disposed such that said pointed post extends within said plane from said circular frame until said pointed end is centrally located within said opening, wherein said resilient circular frame is configured to be removably attached to a portion of the telescope.

9 . A sight aid for aiding aiming of a projectile device with respect to a target, said sight aid comprising:
 (a) a telescope having a housing, an objective lens mounted in the housing at one end thereof for forming a target image, an ocular lens mounted in the housing at an opposite end thereof and having image-erecting optics, a reticle mounted within the housing, wherein the objective and ocular lenses define an optical axis through the housing and the image-erecting optics are mounted between the objective and ocular lenses on the optical axis for erecting the image formed by the objective lens, where the erected image is formed for viewing by a user, the reticle having a sight alignment indicator on the optical axis, an image thereof being aligned with the target image formed by the objective lens and the image-erecting optics within the housing to facilitate alignment of the telescope with the target; and (b) a supplementary sight alignment indicator disposed between said ocular lens and the reticle along said optical axis for forming a composite image with said image of said sight alignment indicator and the target image being viewable together by the user by means of said ocular lens, wherein said supplementary sight alignment indicator is disposed at a distance from the reticle, whereby an indication of deviation of said images of said axially-centered sight alignment indicator and axially-centered supplementary sight alignment indicator and said target image along the optical axis is provided to the user such that an action can be taken to correct such deviation to assure accurate alignment of the optical axis of said telescope with the target.

10 . The sight aid of claim 9 , wherein said supplementary sight alignment indicator is configured to be slidingly and removably coupled to a rail such that said distance is adjustable.

11 . The sight aid of claim 9 , wherein said supplementary sight alignment indicator is configured to be removably attachable to said telescope.

12 . The sight aid of claim 9 , wherein said distance is no more than about 1 inch.

13 . The sight aid of claim 9 , wherein said supplementary sight alignment indicator comprises a pointed post comprising a post having a pointed end axially-centered with respect to said sight alignment indicator.

14 . The sight aid of claim 13 , wherein said pointed post comprises a post having a fixed width for substantially the entirety of its length and tapers inwardly and centrally to said pointed end.

15 . The sight aid of claim 13 , wherein said pointed post comprises a cross-sectional profile that tapers inwardly and centrally from a base at a first end to said pointed end at a second end.

16 . The sight aid of claim 13 , further comprising a resilient circular frame disposed in a plane and having an opening, said pointed post is disposed such that said pointed post extends within said plane from said circular frame until said pointed end is centrally located within said opening, wherein said resilient circular frame is configured to be removably attached to a portion of said telescope.
