Abstract

A breathing arrangement for use between a patient and a structure to deliver a breathable gas to the patient includes a patient interface including a mouth covering assembly including a cushion structured to sealingly engage around an exterior of a patient's mouth in use, a nozzle assembly including a pair of nozzles structured to sealingly engage within nasal passages of a patient's nose in use without forming a seal on a nasal bridge region of a patient's face, each of the nozzles including a dual wall construction including an inner wall and an outer wall that surrounds the inner wall, and a flexible element connecting the mouth covering assembly and the nozzle assembly.

         21 . A mask system for delivery of respiratory therapy to a patient, the mask system comprising:
 a patient interface assembly, and a headgear assembly configured to secure the patient interface assembly to both a nose of the patient and a mouth of the patient, the patient interface assembly defining a breathing chamber configured to contemporaneously provide air to both the nose and the mouth, the patient interface assembly shaped to mount entirely below a nasal bridge of the patient to avoid the nasal bridge of the patient when the patient interface assembly is secured to both the nose and the mouth, the patient interface assembly including:
 (i) a nasal assembly shaped to form a nasal seal with a flexible silicon material and provide air from the breathing chamber to the nose of the patient, and 
 (ii) a mouth covering assembly shaped to form an oral seal by sealing above an upper lip of the patient and below a lower lip of the patient at a front of a chin of the patient with the flexible silicon material, the mouth covering assembly and the nasal assembly being integrally formed, the mouth covering assembly shaped to provide air from the breathing chamber to the mouth of the patient. 
   
     
     
         22 . The mask system of  claim 21 , wherein:
 the nasal assembly defines a nasal aperture that communicates with the breathing chamber; and   the mouth covering assembly defines a mouth aperture that communicates with the breathing chamber and that is spaced apart from the nasal aperture.   
     
     
         23 . The mask system of  claim 21 , wherein the mouth covering assembly comprises a cushion. 
     
     
         24 . The mask system of  claim 21 , wherein the patient interface assembly includes a frame that is spaced apart from the face of the patient when the patient interface assembly is mounted on the patient. 
     
     
         25 . The mask system of  claim 24 , wherein the frame is permanently attached to the mouth covering assembly. 
     
     
         26 . The mask system of  claim 24 , wherein the frame is removably attachable to the nasal assembly and the mouth covering assembly. 
     
     
         27 . The mask system of  claim 24 , wherein:
 the frame comprises rigid polycarbonate material; and   the flexible silicon material from which the nasal assembly and the mouth covering assembly are formed is softer than the rigid polycarbonate material.   
     
     
         28 . The mask system of  claim 27 , wherein the frame defines a vent. 
     
     
         29 . The mask system of  claim 28 , wherein the frame defines an aperture that is configured to removably connect with an air delivery conduit. 
     
     
         30 . The mask system of  claim 29 , wherein the frame is configured to removably connect with the air delivery conduit through a swivel connector. 
     
     
         31 . The mask system of  claim 21 , wherein the headgear assembly includes:
 one or more upper headgear straps configured to attach to upper portions of sides of the patient interface assembly; and   one or more lower headgear straps configured to attach to lower portions of the sides of the patient interface assembly.   
     
     
         32 . The mask system of  claim 31 , wherein:
 wherein the patient interface assembly includes a rigid frame that spaced apart from the face of the patient when the nasal assembly and the mouth covering assembly are mounted on the patient; and   the headgear assembly includes one or more lower headgear straps that are configured to attach to the frame.   
     
     
         33 . The mask system of  claim 31 , wherein:
 the one or more upper headgear straps extend from the patient interface assembly to above ears of the patient when attached to the patient interface assembly and the patient interface assembly is mounted on the patient; and   the one or more lower headgear straps extend from the patient interface assembly to below the ears of the patient when attached to the patient interface assembly and the patient interface assembly is mounted on the patient.   
     
     
         34 . The mask system of  claim 33 , wherein the patient interface includes independent attachment points on each of the sides of the patient interface assembly for the one or more upper headgear straps and the one or more lower headgear straps. 
     
     
         35 . The mask system of  claim 21 , wherein the patient interface assembly is configured to removably attach to an air delivery conduit to supply air through both the nasal assembly and the mouth covering assembly. 
     
     
         36 . The mask system of  claim 21 , further comprising a pair of air delivery conduits attached to respective sides of the patient interface. 
     
     
         37 . The mask system of  claim 21 , wherein:
 the patient interface assembly includes means for attaching to the headgear assembly; and   the headgear assembly includes means for attaching to the patient interface assembly.   
     
     
         38 . The mask system of  claim 37 , wherein the mouth covering assembly includes means for forming the mouth seal. 
     
     
         39 . The mask system of  claim 38 , further comprising:
 an air delivery conduit that includes means for connecting to the patient interface assembly; and   wherein the patient interface assembly includes means for removably connecting to the air delivery conduit.   
     
     
         40 . The mask system of  claim 39 , wherein the patient interface assembly includes a rigid frame that is spaced apart from the face of the patient when the patient interface assembly is mounted on the patient, wherein the rigid frame includes means for connecting to the mouth covering assembly.
