Abstract

A computer-implemented system and method for providing a personal mobile device-triggered medical intervention is provided. An activity monitor is associated with a patient and is configured to sense cardiac activity data, including heart rate and heart rhythm. A mobile device is paired with the activity monitor to execute an application for detecting a potentially medically significant cardiac event based on the cardiac activity data. An electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor is fitted to a sternal region of the patient to sense electrocardiographic signals that the activity monitor is not capable of obtaining. The patient's access to the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor is triggered upon detection of the potentially medically significant cardiac event and the electrocardiographic signals are directly uploaded into an electronic medical record for the patient for review by a medical professional.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A computer-implemented system, comprising:
 an activity monitor associated with a patient and configured to sense cardiac activity data comprising heart rate or heart rhythm;   a mobile device paired with the activity monitor to execute an application to detect a potentially medically significant cardiac event based on the cardiac activity data; and   an electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor fitted to a sternal region of the patient to sense electrocardiographic signals that the activity monitor is not capable of obtaining, wherein the patient's access to the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor is triggered upon detection of the potentially medically significant cardiac event and the electrocardiographic signals are directly uploaded into an electronic medical record for the patient for review by a medical professional.   
     
     
         2 . A system according to  claim 1  further comprising:
 indicia printed on the outside of, applied to the outside of, or integrated into the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor. 
 
     
     
         3 . A system according to  claim 2 , wherein the indicia comprises one or more of a label, barcode, and QR code. 
     
     
         4 . A system according to  claim 2 , further comprising:
 a camera located within the mobile device to record one or more of the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor and the indicia on the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor.   
     
     
         5 . A system according to  claim 4 , wherein at least one of placement and use of the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor is recorded with an identifying mark of the patient via the camera to authenticate the electrocardiographic signals. 
     
     
         6 . A system according to  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a micro-controller electrically interfaced to an electrocardiographic front end circuit of the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor to sample the electrocardiographic signals sensed by the electrocardiographic front end circuit, to stage each electrocardiographic signal sample in a buffer, to compress each of the staged electrocardiographic signal samples, to buffer each of the compressed electrocardiographic signal samples, and to write the buffered electrocardiographic signal samples to memory.   
     
     
         7 . A system according to  claim 6 , wherein the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor receives the cardiac activity data from the activity monitor and processes the cardiac activity data via the micro-controller comprising sampling the activity data, staging each activity data sample in a buffer, compressing each of the staged activity data samples, buffering each of the compressed activity data samples, and writing the buffered activity data samples to memory. 
     
     
         8 . A system according to  claim 7 , wherein the buffered electrocardiographic signal samples and the buffered activity data samples are converted to a different format for analysis. 
     
     
         9 . A system according to  claim 1 , wherein the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor interoperates wirelessly with the activity monitor. 
     
     
         10 . A system according to  claim 1 , wherein the mobile device retrieves the cardiac activity from the activity monitor. 
     
     
         11 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
 associating an activity monitor with a patient configured to sense cardiac activity data comprising heart rate or heart rhythm;   paring a mobile device with the activity monitor to execute an application to detect a potentially medically significant cardiac event based on the cardiac activity data; and   fitting an electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor to a sternal region of the patient to sense electrocardiographic signals that the activity monitor is not capable of obtaining, wherein the patient's access to the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor is triggered upon detection of the potentially medically significant cardiac event and the electrocardiographic signals are directly uploaded into an electronic medical record for the patient for review by a medical professional.   
     
     
         12 . A method according to  claim 11  further comprising:
 printing on an outside of, applying to the outside of, or integrating into the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor, indicia to identify the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor. 
 
     
     
         13 . A method according to  claim 12 , wherein the indicia comprises one or more of a label, barcode, and QR code. 
     
     
         14 . A method according to  claim 12 , wherein a camera is located within the mobile device to record one or more of the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor and the indicia on the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor. 
     
     
         15 . A method according to  claim 14 , wherein at least one of placement and use of the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor is recorded with an identifying mark of the patient via the camera to authenticate the electrocardiographic signals. 
     
     
         16 . A method according to  claim 11 , further comprising:
 sampling the electrocardiographic signals sensed by the electrocardiographic front end circuit via a micro-controller electrically interfaced to an electrocardiographic front end circuit of the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor, staging each electrocardiographic signal sample in a buffer, compressing each of the staged electrocardiographic signal samples, buffering each of the compressed electrocardiographic signal samples, and writing the buffered electrocardiographic signal samples to memory.   
     
     
         17 . A method according to  claim 16 , wherein the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor receives the cardiac activity data from the activity monitor and processes the cardiac activity data via the micro-controller comprising sampling the activity data, staging each activity data sample in a buffer, compressing each of the staged activity data samples, buffering each of the compressed activity data samples, and writing the buffered activity data samples to memory. 
     
     
         18 . A method according to  claim 17 , wherein the buffered electrocardiographic signal samples and the buffered activity data samples are converted to a different format for analysis. 
     
     
         19 . A method according to  claim 11 , wherein the electrocardiography and physiological sensor monitor interoperates wirelessly with the activity monitor. 
     
     
         20 . A method according to  claim 11 , wherein the mobile device retrieves the cardiac activity from the activity monitor.
