Abstract

A periodontal structure regeneration composition for treatment of periodontal disease is a mixture of particles of a bone growth material and free collagen. All particles are sized to be less than 1 mm in diameter. The periodontal regeneration composition is injected into the periodontal pocket through an 18 gauge needle. The composition may contain a thickener that increases the viscosity of the composition after the material has been injected into the periodontal pocket. The composition is available in pre-filled syringes offered in a kit that may also contain strips of surgical sponge or gauze that are sized to fit within a periodontal pocket, a time of adhesive, a dental bur, a probe, a gauze placement tool, gauze counter and a brush for cleaning the dental bur.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 40 . (canceled)

         41 . A kit comprising:
a syringe comprising a composition comprising hydroxylapatite, uncrosslinked collagen, and calcium sulfate.

42 . The kit of claim 41 , wherein the hydroxylapatite, uncrosslinked collagen, and calcium sulfate are present in a weight-to-weight ratio of about 2:2:1 to about 3:2:1 in the composition.

43 . The kit of claim 41 , wherein the syringe comprises from about 0.1 ml to about 1 ml of the composition.

44 . The kit of claim 41 , wherein the hydroxylapatite comprises particles having a diameter from about 50 microns to about 400 microns.

45 . The kit of claim 41 , wherein the composition further comprises a thickener.

46 . The kit of claim 41 , wherein the composition further comprises a bone morphogenic protein, a growth factor, a nutrient factor, a drug, a calcium containing compound, an anti-inflammatory agent, an anti-microbial agent, an antibiotic, and combinations thereof.

47 . The kit of claim 41 , further comprising one or more of the following:
a plurality of needles, a plurality of surgical gauze strips; a gauze placement tool; a dental bur; a dental bur brush; an adhesive; and instructions to administer the composition.

48 . A method of treating a periodontal disease in a subject comprising:
abrading a portion of a tooth root surface and an inner surface of gingiva of the subject; and administering into a periodontal cavity of the subject a composition comprising hydroxylapatite, uncrosslinked collagen, and calcium sulfate.

49 . The method of claim 48 , wherein the hydroxylapatite, the uncrosslinked collagen, and the calcium sulfate are present in a weight-to-weight ratio of about 2:2:1 to about 3:2:1 in the composition

50 . The method of claim 48 , further comprising applying an adhesive layer to the periodontal cavity after administration of the composition.

51 . The method of claim 48 , further comprising heating the composition before administration.

52 . The method of claim 48 , further comprising causing hemostasis after the step of abrading and before administering the composition.

53 . The method of claim 48 , wherein the composition further comprises a thickener.

54 . The method of claim 48 , wherein the composition further comprises a bone morphogenic protein, a growth factor, a nutrient factor, a drug, a calcium containing compound, an anti-inflammatory agent, an anti-microbial agent, an antibiotic, and combinations thereof.

55 . The method of claim 48 , wherein the composition is administered without incisions in gingival tissue surrounding the periodontal cavity.
