Medicament delivery formulations, devices and methods

Abstract

Disclosed are medicinal compositions, and devices, methods and systems which use same, comprising a propellant and at lease one medicinally active compound, said propellant comprising at least one fluoroolefin having at least two but less than seven carbon atoms.

A method of treating a mammal by topical administration comprising topically administering to an area of the mammal needing treatment a formulation comprising at least about 5% by weight of at least one compound of Formula II: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
         where each R is independently F, or H, 
         R′ is CF 3 , and 
         at least one R on the unsaturated terminal carbon is H and at least one of the remaining Rs in Formula II is F.

The method of  claim 12  wherein said formulation further comprises at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of C5-C20 fatty alcohols, C5-C20 fatty acids, C5-C20 fatty acid esters, lecithin, glycerides, propyleneglycol esters, polyoxyethanes, polysorbates, sorbitan esters and carbohydrates, or combinations thereof. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 12  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II comprises HFO-1234. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said HFO-1234 comprises HFO1234yf. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said HFO-1234 comprises cisHFO-1234ze. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said HFO-1234 comprises transHFO-1234ze. 
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II is present in the formulation in an amount of about 100% 
     
     
         23 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II is present in the formulation in an amount of from about 5% to about 99% by weight. 
     
     
         24 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II is present in the formulation in an amount of from about 5% to about 95% by weight. 
     
     
         25 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II is present in the formulation in an amount of at least about 50% by weight. 
     
     
         26 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II is present in the formulation in an amount of from about 60% by weight to about 99% by weight. 
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II consists essentially of HFO-1234. 
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of not greater than about 150. 
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II has a pharmacologically and medicinally acceptable low level of toxicity. 
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 12  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II has a pharmacologically and medicinally acceptable low level of toxicity. 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 18  wherein said formulation further comprises one or more hydrofluorocarbons. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 31  wherein said one or more hydrofluorocarbons comprise pentafluoroethane (HFC-125). 
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 32  wherein said at least one compound of Formula II is present in the formulation in an amount of from about 5% to about 95% by weight. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 31  wherein said administering comprises providing a canister containing said formulation under pressure. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 31  wherein said canister has a dispensing valve operable between non-dispensing and dispensing positions.
