Container and lid assembly

Abstract

The assembly 100 includes a container 102 and a lid 104 . The container 102 includes a main body 110 and a container rim 120 surrounding the main body 110 . The container rim 120 has an outer peripheral horizontal top surface 122 and an inner peripheral horizontal top surface 124 vertically above the outer peripheral horizontal top surface. The lid 104 includes a ring-shaped lid frame 130 and a membrane 132 that is attached over a top surface of the lid frame 130 and seals with inner peripheral horizontal top surface.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A container and lid assembly  100  including:
 a container  102 , the container  102  including a main body  110  and a container rim  120  surrounding the main body  110 , the container rim  120  having an outer peripheral horizontal top surface  122  and an inner peripheral horizontal top surface  124 , the outer peripheral horizontal top surface  122  surrounding the inner peripheral horizontal top surface  124  and being vertically below the inner peripheral horizontal top surface  124 , a container rim  120  extending about said outer peripheral horizontal top surface  122 ; and 
 a lid  104 , the lid  104  including: 
 a ring-shaped lid frame  130 , the ring-shaped lid frame  130  including a flat strip portion  134  having a continuous flat top surface and a continuous flat bottom surface, in which said continuous flat bottom surface sits on the outer peripheral horizontal top surface  122  between said container rim  120  and said inner peripheral horizontal top surface  124  when the lid  104  is in a closed position, said continuous flat top surface of said ring-shaped lid frame being vertically below said inner peripheral horizontal top surface, the ring-shaped lid frame  130  including at least one latching tab  136 ,  138  that is made integral with an outer edge of the flat strip portion  134 ; and 
 a membrane  132  attached over a top surface of the ring-shaped lid frame  130  said membrane engaging with and seating on said inner peripheral horizontal top surface  124 . 
 
     
     
         2 . The container and lid assembly of  claim 1  wherein said outer peripheral horizontal top surface  122  of said container rim includes at least one aperture being formed therein, said at least one aperture being located at a corner of said outer peripheral horizontal top surface  122 , said lid having a stud formed on said flat strip portion said stud being formed at a corner, said stud being designed to engage said aperture formed in said outer peripheral horizontal top surface. 
     
     
         3 . The container and lid assembly of  claim 2  wherein said at least one aperture is of an oblong shape. 
     
     
         4 . The container and lid assembly of  claim 3  wherein said stud has a cylindrical shape. 
     
     
         5 . The container and lid assembly of  claim 1  wherein said container is thermoformed and said ring-shaped lid frame is injection molded. 
     
     
         6 . The container and lid assembly of  claim 1  wherein said container and said ring-shaped lid frame each have a rectangular configuration forming four corners. 
     
     
         7 . The container and lid assembly of  claim 6  wherein said container and said ring-shaped lid frame each have four corners. 
     
     
         8 . The container and lid assembly of  claim 6  wherein said ring-shaped lid frame has a plurality of latching tabs formed integrally with an outer edge of the flap strip portion of said ring-shaped lid frame at said corners. 
     
     
         9 . The container and lid assembly of  claim 8  wherein said ring-shaped lid frame is formed integrally with said container. 
     
     
         10 . The container and lid assembly of  claim 9  wherein said ring-shaped lid frame is connected to said container at one of said four corners.
