Abstract

A user's health record can be stored on a user device. Medical terms from the health record can be represented as medical term expressions using an indexing process. The medical term expressions can be used to search the health record, add additional contextual information (e.g., in the form of metadata) to the health record, and/or to filter record entries in the health record. This creates a personalized relational graph for the user. The medical term expressions provide for uniform display of the information from the health record.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
 accessing a health record stored according to a first data model on a user device associated with a user account;   for an entry of the health record, identifying a medical concept present in the entry based at least in part on a medical term expression generated to represent at least a portion of the entry;   creating a node in a relational graph representing the medical concept, the relational graph being unique to the user account;   adding one or more sub-nodes to the node in the relational graph based at least in part on additional information relating to the medical concept;   storing the relational graph comprising the one or more sub-nodes on the user device according to a second data model; and   responsive to a request, providing information represented by at least one of the one or more sub-nodes for presentation at the user device.   
     
     
         2 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein adding the one or more sub-nodes to the node in the relational graph comprises:
 receiving an additional health record;   indexing medical terms found in the additional health record to generate medical term expressions;   identifying one or more medical concepts based at least in part on the medical term expressions; and   for those medical term expressions having the same medical concept as the medical concept, adding additional sub-nodes to the node.   
     
     
         3 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising adding additional sub-nodes to the node based at least in part on detecting updates to a global term base. 
     
     
         4 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , further comprising adding additional sub-nodes to the node based at least in part on identifying, in a remote database, metadata associated with the medical concept. 
     
     
         5 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the request comprises a request to view a portion of the health record organized by medical concept; and   providing information represented by at least one of the one or more sub-nodes for presentation at the user device comprises providing the information organized by the medical concept.   
     
     
         6 . A user device, comprising:
 a display;   a memory configured to store computer-executable instructions; and   a processor in communication with the memory and configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to at least:
 receive, from a gateway of an electronic health record system, a data package comprising an electronic health record; 
 store the electronic health record on the user device according to a first data model; 
 associate, in a database organized according to a second data model and stored on the user device, metadata with medical term expressions representing medical terms from the electronic health record to create a personalized relational graph, the metadata being descriptive of the medical terms represented by the medical term expressions; 
 generate an index that associates the medical term expressions with reference identifiers of the medical terms from the electronic health record; 
 receive a request for information about a particular medical term found in the electronic health record; 
 in response to receiving the request, access the database using a particular medical term expression associated with the particular medical term and the index to retrieve the information about the particular medical term, the information about the particular medical term comprising certain metadata that is descriptive of the particular medical term; and 
 provide the information about the particular medical term for presentation at the display. 
   
     
     
         7 . The user device of  claim 6 , wherein the processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to at least generate the medical term expressions by indexing the medical terms using an indexing algorithm. 
     
     
         8 . The user device of  claim 6 , wherein the request for information is a request to view health record entries in the electronic health record and that are associated with the particular medical term. 
     
     
         9 . The user device of  claim 6 , wherein the information about the particular medical term provides contextual information about the particular medical term that was not present in the electronic health record when the electronic health record was downloaded. 
     
     
         10 . The user device of  claim 6 , wherein the particular medical term expression comprises a plurality of expression primitives stored in the database, and the medical term expression is a medical term index for accessing the plurality of expression primitives from the database. 
     
     
         11 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
 receiving a search query to search a health record that is associated with a user account, the search query comprising at least one search term, and at least part of the health record being stored on a user device;   processing, by the user device, the search query to generate a medical term expression that is representative of the search query and comprises at least one expression primitive corresponding to the at least one search term;   identifying a medical concept corresponding to the medical term expression;   identifying, based at least in part on the at least one expression primitive and the medical concept, a plurality of other medical expression primitives corresponding to a plurality of record entries in the health record, the plurality of record entries being associated with the medical concept in a personalized relational graph; and   providing for presentation at the user device information about the plurality of record entries.   
     
     
         12 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 11 , wherein the medical term expression is a medical term index usable for accessing a database in which the at least one expression primitive is stored. 
     
     
         13 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 11 , wherein providing for presentation information about the plurality of record entries comprises grouping the information about the plurality of record entries under a heading corresponding to the medical concept. 
     
     
         14 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 11 , wherein identifying the medical concept corresponding to the medical term expression comprises identifying the medical concept based at least in part on the at least one expression primitive. 
     
     
         15 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 11 , further comprising using the medical term expression to generate a uniform medical term corresponding to the at least one search term. 
     
     
         16 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 11 , wherein the health record comprises a plurality of medical sub-records sourced from one or more gateways of one or more electronic health record systems. 
     
     
         17 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 11 , further comprising:
 associating, in a database stored on the user device, metadata with medical term expressions representing the medical terms from the health record, the metadata being descriptive of the medical terms represented by the medical term expressions;   generating an index that associates the medical term expressions with reference identifiers of the medical terms from the health record;   receiving a request for information about a particular medical term found in the health record;   in response to receiving the request, accessing the database using a particular medical term expression associated with the particular medical term and the index to retrieve the information about the particular medical term, the information about the particular medical term comprising certain metadata that is descriptive of the particular medical term; and   providing the information about the particular medical term for presentation at the user device.   
     
     
         18 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 17 , wherein the information about the particular medical term provides contextual information about the particular medical term that was not present in the health record when the health record was created. 
     
     
         19 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 11 , wherein identifying, based at least in part on the at least one expression primitive and the medical concept, the plurality of other medical expression primitives corresponding to the plurality of record entries in the health record comprises using the at least one expression primitive as an index to access a database in which information about the health record is stored. 
     
     
         20 . The computer-implemented method of  claim 11 , wherein processing, by the user device, the search query to generate the medical term expression comprises indexing the at least one search term using an indexing algorithm.
