Marine vessel having a convertible sofa

Abstract

A marine vessel includes at least one convertible sofa that moves between a sofa position and a bed position. In one embodiment, the marine vessel includes a first convertible sofa and a second convertible sofa couple together as a freestanding unit where the seat portion of the first convertible sofa and the seat portion of the second convertible sofa are held in a fixed, spaced apart relationship to each other. In another embodiment, one end of the first convertible sofa and one end of the second convertible sofa are coupled together to hold the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa in a fixed, spaced apart relationship to each other and to form an aisle between the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa when the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are in the sofa position.

1 . A marine vessel comprising:
 a first convertible sofa; and   a second convertible sofa, the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa each comprising:
 a seat portion having a front side and a rear side; 
 a back portion having a top side and a bottom side; and 
 a rollover mechanism coupling the seat portion and the back portion together, the rollover mechanism comprising:
 a first arm coupled to the seat portion and the back portion; and 
 a second arm coupled to the seat portion and the back portion; 
 wherein the first arm is coupled to the seat portion at a location that is closer to the front side of the seat portion than a location where the second arm is coupled to the seat portion; and 
 wherein the first arm is coupled to the back portion at a location that is closer to the bottom side of the back portion than a location where the second arm is coupled to the back portion; 
 
 wherein the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are each movable between a sofa position where the back portion is upright and a bed position where the back portion is flat; 
   wherein the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are coupled together as a freestanding unit where the seat portion of the first convertible sofa and the seat portion of the second convertible sofa are in a fixed, spaced apart relationship to each other; and   wherein the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa form sofas that face each other when the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are in the sofa position and the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa combine to form a bed when the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are in the bed position.   
     
     
         2 . The marine vessel of  claim 1  comprising a wall, wherein at least one of the first convertible sofa or the second convertible sofa is coupled to the wall. 
     
     
         3 . The marine vessel of  claim 1  wherein the first arm and the second arm are rigid and have a fixed length. 
     
     
         4 . The marine vessel of  claim 1  wherein the first arm and the second arm each have a dogleg shape. 
     
     
         5 . The marine vessel of  claim 1  wherein the seat portion comprises a frame and the first arm and the second arm are pivotably coupled to the frame. 
     
     
         6 . The marine vessel of  claim 1  wherein the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are coupled together by a rigid side wall extending between the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa. 
     
     
         7 . The marine vessel of  claim 6  wherein the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa form an aisle between the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa when the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are in the sofa position and wherein the rigid side wall blocks one side of the aisle. 
     
     
         8 . The marine vessel of  claim 6  wherein the rigid side wall forms an arm rest at the end of each one of the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa. 
     
     
         9 . The marine vessel of  claim 1  wherein the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa form an aisle between the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa when the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are in the sofa position and wherein the aisle is parallel to a lengthwise direction of the marine vessel. 
     
     
         10 . The marine vessel of  claim 1  wherein one end of the first convertible sofa and one end of the second convertible sofa are coupled together to hold the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa in a fixed, spaced apart relationship to each other and form an aisle between the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa when the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are in the sofa position, and wherein another end of the first convertible sofa positioned opposite the one end of the first convertible sofa and another end of the second convertible sofa positioned opposite the one end of the second convertible sofa are not configured to be coupled together. 
     
     
         11 . The marine vessel of  claim 1  wherein the bottom side of the back portion rests on the rear side of the seat portion when the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are in the sofa position and wherein the top side of the back portion is adjacent the front side of the seat portion when the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are in the bed position. 
     
     
         12 . A marine vessel comprising:
 a first convertible sofa; and   a second convertible sofa, the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa each comprising:
 a seat portion having a front side and a rear side; 
 a back portion having a top side and a bottom side; and 
 wherein the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are each movable between (a) a sofa position where the back portion is upright and the bottom side of the back portion rests on the rear side of the seat portion and (b) a bed position where the back portion is flat and the top side of the back portion is adjacent the front side of the seat portion; 
   wherein one end of the first convertible sofa and one end of the second convertible sofa are coupled together to hold the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa in a fixed, spaced apart relationship to each other and form an aisle between the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa when the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are in the sofa position; and   wherein another end of the first convertible sofa positioned opposite the one end of the first convertible sofa and another end of the second convertible sofa positioned opposite the one end of the second convertible sofa are not configured to be coupled together.   
     
     
         13 . The marine vessel of  claim 12  wherein the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa each comprise a rollover mechanism coupling the seat portion and the back portion together. 
     
     
         14 . The marine vessel of  claim 13  wherein the rollover mechanism comprises:
 a first arm coupled to the seat portion and the back portion; and 
 a second arm coupled to the seat portion and the back portion; 
 wherein the first arm is coupled to the seat portion at a location that is closer to the front side of the seat portion than a location where the second arm is coupled to the seat portion; and 
 wherein the first arm is coupled to the back portion at a location that is closer to the bottom side of the back portion than a location where the second arm is coupled to the back portion. 
 
     
     
         15 . The marine vessel of  claim 12  comprising a wall, wherein at least one of the first convertible sofa or the second convertible sofa is coupled to the wall. 
     
     
         16 . The marine vessel of  claim 12  wherein the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa are coupled together by a rigid side wall extending between the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa. 
     
     
         17 . The marine vessel of  claim 16  wherein the rigid side wall blocks one side of the aisle. 
     
     
         18 . The marine vessel of  claim 16  wherein the rigid side wall forms an arm rest at the one end of each one of the first convertible sofa and the second convertible sofa. 
     
     
         19 . The marine vessel of  claim 12  wherein the aisle is parallel to a lengthwise direction of the marine vessel.
