System, method, and medium for facilitating auction-based resource sharing for message queues in an on-demand services environment
Abstract
In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for facilitating an auction-based fair allocation and usage of thread resources for user messages according to one embodiment in an on-demand services environment. In one embodiment and by way of example, a method includes receiving job requests and bids from a plurality of organizations over a network, where each job request and the corresponding bid is placed by a user associated with an organization having a resource currency value within a multi-tenant database system via a user interface at a computing device over the network, determining resource currency values associated with pending jobs relating to the plurality of organizations, wherein the resource currency values corresponds to resources dedicated to the pending jobs, and performing an auction of the received bids for resources that are not dedicated and remains available for purchase, where a bid includes a purchase request to purchase the available resources. The method may further include prioritizing the job requests based on the dedicated resources and the auction of the available resources, and processing the job requests based on the prioritized job requests.

16 . A method comprising:
receiving, by an auction device in a multi-tenant database environment, a bid for a job request from a first tenant of multiple tenants, wherein the bid offers one or more credits for obtaining a set of resources to perform a job associated with the job request; facilitating, by the auction device, an auction to exchange the one or more credits for acquiring the set of resources to perform the job for the first tenant; determining, by the auction device, a fair allocation of the set of resources in exchange for the one or more credits based on results of the auction and one or more priorities associated with at least one of the first tenant and a job type of the job, wherein the one or more priorities are based on at least one of a frequency at which the first tenant places bids for job requests, and an expected runtime for performing the job of the job type; and performing, by the auction device, the fair allocation of the set of resources to the first tenant such that the job is performed using the set of resources, wherein the set of resources include one or more of unallocated resources, purchased resources fairly allocated to and sold by a second tenant, and relinquished resources unfairly allocated to and relinquished by a third tenant.
17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the auction comprises comparing the bid with other bids received from one or more tenants of the multiple tenants seeking one or more sets of resources to perform one or more jobs of one or more job types.
18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the one or more priorities are further based on one or more historical references associated with at least one of the first tenant and the job type, and one or more monetary values associated with the bid.
19 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the set of resources comprise thread resources for processing jobs, and wherein the auction device comprises one or more processing devices coupled to one or more memory devices, wherein the one or more processing devices to facilitate management of the thread resources in the multitenant database environment.
20 . A database system comprising:
a data processing system including an auction device in a multi-tenant database environment, wherein the auction device to: receive a bid for a job request from a first tenant of multiple tenants, wherein the bid offers one or more credits for obtaining a set of resources to perform a job associated with the job request; facilitate an auction to exchange the one or more credits for acquiring the set of resources to perform the job for the first tenant; determine a fair allocation of the set of resources in exchange for the one or more credits based on results of the auction and one or more priorities associated with at least one of the first tenant and a job type of the job, wherein the one or more priorities are based on at least one of a frequency at which the first tenant places bids for job requests, and an expected runtime for performing the job of the job type; and perform the fair allocation of the set of resources to the first tenant such that the job is performed using the set of resources, wherein the set of resources include one or more of unallocated resources, purchased resources fairly allocated to and sold by a second tenant, and relinquished resources unfairly allocated to and relinquished by a third tenant.
21 . The database system of claim 20 , wherein the auction comprises comparing the bid with other bids received from one or more tenants of the multiple tenants seeking one or more sets of resources to perform one or more jobs of one or more job types.
22 . The database system of claim 20 , wherein the one or more priorities are further based on one or more historical references associated with at least one of the first tenant and the job type, and one or more monetary values associated with the bid.
23 . The database system of claim 20 , wherein the set of resources comprise thread resources for processing jobs, and wherein the auction device comprises one or more processing devices coupled to one or more memory devices, wherein the one or more processing devices to facilitate management of the thread resources in the multitenant database environment.
24 . At least one computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions which, when executed by a computing device in a multi-tenant database environment, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:
receiving a bid for a job request from a first tenant of multiple tenants, wherein the bid offers one or more credits for obtaining a set of resources to perform a job associated with the job request; facilitating an auction to exchange the one or more credits for acquiring the set of resources to perform the job for the first tenant; determining a fair allocation of the set of resources in exchange for the one or more credits based on results of the auction and one or more priorities associated with at least one of the first tenant and a job type of the job, wherein the one or more priorities are based on at least one of a frequency at which the first tenant places bids for job requests, and an expected runtime for performing the job of the job type; and performing the fair allocation of the set of resources to the first tenant such that the job is performed using the set of resources, wherein the set of resources include one or more of unallocated resources, purchased resources fairly allocated to and sold by a second tenant, and relinquished resources unfairly allocated to and relinquished by a third tenant.
25 . The computer-readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the auction comprises comparing the bid with other bids received from one or more tenants of the multiple tenants seeking one or more sets of resources to perform one or more jobs of one or more job types.
26 . The computer-readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the one or more priorities are further based on one or more historical references associated with at least one of the first tenant and the job type, and one or more monetary values associated with the bid.
27 . The computer-readable medium of claim 24 , wherein the set of resources comprise thread resources for processing jobs, and wherein the auction device comprises one or more processing devices coupled to one or more memory devices, wherein the one or more processing devices to facilitate management of the thread resources in the multitenant database environment.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
