Abstract

A mobile communication device and an “app” for a mobile communication device for synchronizing audio with a delayed video displayed on a display device, including (a) receiving an audio signal over a wireless communication system, the audio signal containing audio information corresponding to delayed video information displayed on a display device, wherein the audio information is received at the mobile communication device prior to the corresponding delayed video information being displayed on the display device; (b) providing a user interface to the user including an audio delay control allowing the user to control an amount of delay added to the audio information for synchronizing output of the audio information with the delayed video information displayed on the display device; and (c) outputting the audio information via an audio interface of the mobile communication device delayed by the amount of delay added via the audio delay control.

         27 . A method for providing viewership information for an audio/video program being displayed on a public or shared display device, the method performed by an audio processor that distributes audio information associated with the audio/video program to mobile communication devices over a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
 receiving, by the audio processor, an audio signal associated with the audio/video program, the audio signal corresponding to video information displayed on a display screen of a display device that is separate from the audio processor and from the mobile communication devices;   identifying, by the audio processor, at least one mobile communication device to receive audio information from the audio signal over the wireless communication system;   transmitting, by the audio processor, the audio information to each identified mobile communication device over the wireless communication system;   collecting, by the audio processor, viewership information for the audio/video program based on the identified mobile communication devices receiving the audio information; and   transmitting, by the audio processor, the viewership information to an entity that collects and processes such viewership information.   
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein the viewership information comprises information about each mobile communication device that is receiving the audio information. 
     
     
         29 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein each mobile communication device is associated with a user, and wherein the viewership information comprises information about the user of each mobile communication device. 
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein the display device is at a known location, and wherein the viewership information comprises information about the known location. 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein the viewership information comprises the number of mobile communication devices receiving the audio information for the audio/video program. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein the viewership information comprises identification of the audio/video program. 
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein a mobile communication device is identified by a selection received from the mobile communication device. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein transmitting the audio information comprises:
 generating packets of digitized audio information from the audio signal; and   transmitting the packets of digitized audio information.

The method of  claim 27 , wherein the audio information is transmitted to the identified mobile communication devices such that the audio information arrives at the identified mobile communication devices at or before the corresponding video information is displayed on the display device so that each mobile communication device can adjust audio delay to synchronize the audio information with the video information displayed on the display device. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein the wireless communication system comprises a Wi-Fi wireless communication system. 
     
     
         37 . A computer program product comprising a tangible, non-transitory computer-readable medium on which is stored a computer program for providing viewership information for an audio/video program being displayed on a public or shared display device, the computer program including instructions which, when executed on a computer, causes the computer to implement an audio processor that distributes audio information associated with the audio/video program to mobile communication devices over a wireless communication system, the audio processor executing computer processes comprising:
 receiving, by the audio processor, an audio signal associated with the audio/video program, the audio signal corresponding to video information displayed on a display screen of a display device that is separate from the audio processor and from the mobile communication devices;   identifying, by the audio processor, at least one mobile communication device to receive audio information from the audio signal over the wireless communication system;   transmitting, by the audio processor, the audio information to each identified mobile communication device over the wireless communication system;   collecting, by the audio processor, viewership information for the audio/video program based on the identified mobile communication devices receiving the audio information; and   transmitting, by the audio processor, the viewership information to an entity that collects and processes such viewership information.   
     
     
         38 . The computer program product of  claim 37 , wherein the viewership information comprises information about each mobile communication device that is receiving the audio information. 
     
     
         39 . The computer program product of  claim 37 , wherein each mobile communication device is associated with a user, and wherein the viewership information comprises information about the user of each mobile communication device. 
     
     
         40 . The computer program product of  claim 37 , wherein the display device is at a known location, and wherein the viewership information comprises information about the known location. 
     
     
         41 . The computer program product of  claim 37 , wherein the viewership information comprises the number of mobile communication devices receiving the audio information for the audio/video program. 
     
     
         42 . The computer program product of  claim 37 , wherein the viewership information comprises identification of the audio/video program. 
     
     
         43 . The computer program product of  claim 37 , wherein a mobile communication device is identified by a selection received from the mobile communication device. 
     
     
         44 . The computer program product of  claim 37 , wherein transmitting the audio information comprises:
 generating packets of digitized audio information from the audio signal; and   transmitting the packets of digitized audio information.

The computer program product of  claim 37 , wherein the audio information is transmitted to the identified mobile communication devices such that the audio information arrives at the identified mobile communication devices before the corresponding video information is displayed on the display device so that each mobile communication device can adjust audio delay to synchronize the audio information with the video information displayed on the display device. 
     
     
         46 . The computer program product of  claim 37 , wherein the wireless communication system comprises a Wi-Fi wireless communication system. 
     
     
         47 . An apparatus for providing viewership information for an audio/video program being displayed on a public or shared display device, the apparatus comprising:
 an audio signal interface;   a wireless communication interface;   a network interface; and   an audio processor configured to perform processes comprising:   receiving, via the audio signal interface, an audio signal associated with the audio/video program, the audio signal corresponding to video information displayed on a display screen of a display device that is separate from the audio processor and from the mobile communication devices;   identifying, via the wireless communication interface, at least one mobile communication device to receive audio information from the audio signal over the wireless communication system;   transmitting, via the wireless communication interface, the audio information to each identified mobile communication device over the wireless communication system;   collecting viewership information for the audio/video program based on the identified mobile communication devices receiving the audio information; and   transmitting, via the network interface, the viewership information to an entity that collects and processes such viewership information.   
     
     
         48 . The apparatus of  claim 47 , wherein the viewership information comprises information about each mobile communication device that is receiving the audio information. 
     
     
         49 . The apparatus of  claim 47 , wherein each mobile communication device is associated with a user, and wherein the viewership information comprises information about the user of each mobile communication device. 
     
     
         50 . The apparatus of  claim 47 , wherein the display device is at a known location, and wherein the viewership information comprises information about the known location. 
     
     
         51 . The apparatus of  claim 47 , wherein the viewership information comprises the number of mobile communication devices receiving the audio information for the audio/video program.
