Dynamic data difference generation and distribution
Abstract
A method of updating data may include receiving an update request from a computing device, the update request including a profile of a current set of data stored on the computing device; determining, based at least in part on the profile of the current set of data, an updated set of data is available; determining if a delta set of data has previously been generated to transform the current set of data to the updated set of data; and based on determining that the delta set of data has not been previously generated: generating the delta set of data; and transmitting an address, to the computing device, for obtaining the delta set of data by the computing device.

2 . A server for updating software of an onboard vehicle system, the server comprising:
an interface to receive a request to update software installed in the onboard vehicle system, wherein the onboard vehicle system has an old version of the software at the time the request is received; one or more processors to:
obtain a software delta between the old version of the software and a new version of the software, wherein the software delta comprises changes between the old version of the software and the new version of the software; and
package the software delta into a delta file; and
a network interface to transmit the delta file to install in the onboard vehicle system.
3 . The server of claim 2 , wherein the software is firmware.
4 . The server of claim 2 , wherein, to transmit the delta file, the network interface is arranged to use a wireless transmitter to send the delta file.
5 . The server of claim 2 , wherein the request was made by a mobile telephone.
6 . The server of claim 5 , wherein, to transmit the delta file, the network interface is instructed by the one or more processors to communicate the delta file to the mobile telephone to install on the onboard vehicle system.
7 . A method for updating software of an onboard vehicle system, the method comprising:
receiving a request to update software installed in the onboard vehicle system, the onboard vehicle system having an old version of the software; generating a delta file by:
obtaining a software delta between the old version of the software and a new version of the software, wherein the software delta comprises changes between the old version of the software and the new version of the software; and
packaging the software delta into the delta file; and
transmitting the delta file to install in the onboard vehicle system.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the software is firmware.
9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein transmitting the delta file includes using a wireless transmitter to send the delta file.
10 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the request was made by a mobile telephone.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein transmitting the delta file includes communicating the delta file to the mobile telephone to install on the onboard vehicle system.
12 . The method of claim 7 , comprising:
receiving the delta file; and installing the delta file on the onboard vehicle system using an installer, the installer applying the software delta to cause the software installed on the vehicle to be at the updated version.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the installer is on the onboard vehicle system.
14 . At least one machine readable medium including instructions for updating software of an onboard vehicle system, the instructions, when processed by computer hardware, cause circuits to perform operations comprising:
receiving a request to update software installed in the onboard vehicle system, the onboard vehicle system having an old version of the software; generating a delta file by:
obtaining a software delta between the old version of the software and a new version of the software, wherein the software delta comprises changes between the old version of the software and the new version of the software; and
packaging the software delta into the delta file; and
transmitting the delta file to install in the onboard vehicle system.
15 . The at least one machine readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the software is firmware.
16 . The at least one machine readable medium of claim 14 , wherein transmitting the delta file includes using a wireless transmitter to send the delta file.
17 . The at least one machine readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the request was made by a mobile telephone.
18 . The at least one machine readable medium of claim 17 , wherein transmitting the delta file includes communicating the delta file to the mobile telephone to install on the onboard vehicle system.
19 . A client device for updating software of an onboard vehicle system, the client device comprising:
a network interface to receive a delta file that was generated by another device that:
obtained a software delta between an old version of the software installed on the onboard vehicle system and a new version of the software, wherein the software delta comprises changes between the old version of the software and the new version of the software; and
packaged the software delta into the delta file; and
circuits to install the delta file on the onboard vehicle system via an installer, the installer to cause the software installed on the vehicle to be at the updated version via application of the software delta.
20 . The client device of claim 19 , wherein the installer is on the onboard vehicle system.
21 . The client device of claim 19 , wherein the software is firmware.
22 . The client device of claim 19 , wherein the network interface includes a wireless receiver to receive the delta file.
23 . The client device of claim 19 , wherein a mobile telephone made a request that resulted in generation of the delta file.
24 . The client device of claim 23 , wherein the client device is the mobile telephone.
25 . The client device of claim 19 , wherein the client device is the on board vehicle system.
26 . At least one machine readable medium including instructions for updating software of an onboard vehicle system, the instructions, when processed by computer hardware, cause circuits to perform operations comprising:
receiving a delta file that was generated by:
obtaining a software delta between an old version of the software installed on the onboard vehicle system and a new version of the software, wherein the software delta comprises changes between the old version of the software and the new version of the software; and
packaging the software delta into the delta file; and
installing the delta file on the onboard vehicle system using an installer, the installer applying the software delta to cause the software installed on the vehicle to be at the updated version.
27 . The at least one machine readable medium of claim 26 , wherein the installer is on the onboard vehicle system.
28 . The at least one machine readable medium of claim 26 , wherein the software is firmware.
29 . The at least one machine readable medium of claim 26 , wherein receiving the delta file includes using a wireless receiver to receive the delta file.
30 . The at least one machine readable medium of claim 26 , wherein a mobile telephone made a request that resulted in generation of the delta file.
31 . The at least one machine readable medium of claim 30 , wherein the circuits are in the mobile telephone.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
