Shower floor drain

Abstract

A concealed shower drain assembly for placement at the bottom of a shower wall has a rigid vertical flange continuously joined in fixed orientation along one side of a rigid horizontal deck member. An opening in the vertical flange leads to a sealed drain box on behind the flange. A drain pipe at the bottom of the drain box provides egress of waste shower water from the drain box. A removable access panel is supported from the vertical flange a plurality of support posts affixed to the interior wall of the drain box. A gap between the periphery of the access panel and the sides of the opening in the vertical flange provides a flow path for shower waste water into the drain box. The drain assembly can be securely attached in place in a shower stall by nailing or screwing the rigid vertical flange directly to the framing of the shower stall.

I claim: 
     
         1 . A shower floor drain comprising:
 a horizontal rigid deck member having a top surface and a bottom surface;   a rigid vertical flange member attached to said first side of said deck member and extending upwardly from said top surface of said deck member;
 said flange member having a front surface and a back surface; 
   a drain box,
 said drain box being attached to said back surface of said flange member; 
 said drain box comprising a drain box top and drain box side wall, 
 said drain box top and drain box side wall at least partially enclosing a drain box interior cavity; 
   an opening in said flange member extending from said front surface of said flange member to said drain box interior cavity;
 said drain box further comprising a drain box bottom connected to said drain box wall; 
   a downwardly directed drain pipe attached to said drain box bottom;   an opening in said drain box bottom leading from said drain box interior cavity to an open upper portion of said drain pipe;   said opening in said flange member having first and second opposing opening sides;   a removable rigid access panel, said access panel having a panel front surface and a panel back surface;   a plurality of first support members;
 each of said plurality of first support members being permanently attached to said flange member; 
   a plurality of second support members;
 each of said plurality of second support members being permanently attached to said panel back surface; 
   wherein each of said plurality of first support members is removably attached to one of said plurality of second support members;   said removable access panel being removably positioned inside of said opening in said flange member;
 wherein said front panel surface and said front surface of said flange member are in the same plane; 
   and said removable access panel having a lower edge, wherein said lower edge of said removable access panel is disposed a finite distance above said top surface of said horizontal deck member.
