Abstract

A mobile phone including a housing, a display encased in the housing, viewable outside the housing through the upper surface of the housing, wherein the upper surface has no movable buttons and no movable switches, a touch sensor detecting touch inputs performed on the upper surface, and a processor mounted in the housing receiving output from the touch sensor and rendering output on the display in response to the received touch sensor outputs.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 18 . (canceled)

         19 . A mobile phone comprising:
a housing; a display encased in said housing, viewable outside said housing through the upper surface of said housing, wherein the upper surface has no movable buttons and no movable switches; a touch sensor detecting touch inputs performed on said upper surface; and a processor mounted in said housing receiving output from said touch sensor and rendering output on said display in response to the received touch sensor outputs.

20 . The mobile phone of claim 19 , wherein the upper surface comprises at least one representation of a function beyond an edge of said display, wherein said touch sensor detects touch input on the at least one representation.

21 . The computer readable medium of claim 20 , wherein the at least one representation represents a keyboard function, and wherein in response to touch sensor outputs related to the representation, said processor renders a keyboard on said display.

22 . The computer readable medium of claim 20 , wherein the at least one representation represents a general application dependent function, and wherein in response to touch sensor outputs related to the representation, said processor renders icons representing additional functions on said display.

23 . The computer readable medium of claim 20 , wherein the at least one representation represents a task manager function, and wherein in response to touch sensor outputs related to the representation, said processor renders representations of available applications on said display.
