Registrant defined limitations on a control panel for a registered tertiary domain

Abstract

Systems and methods of the present invention provide for one or more server computers communicatively coupled to a network and configured to: receive, from a sub domain registration settings control panel displayed on a client computer, form elements to be displayed on a sub domain settings control panel, and store these form elements in a database. The server(s) may then display an HTML form on the sub domain settings control panel, where each HTML for element corresponds to a database record defining features for updating an email, tertiary domain or record modification to a zone file for a registered sub domain.

The invention claimed is: 
     
         1 . A system comprising:
 a first client computer coupled to a network and running a first Internet browser configured to display a first hypertext markup language form of a sub domain registration settings control panel; and   at least one processor executing instructions causing a server computer, coupled to the network, to:
 receive, from the first client computer, a first transmission encoding a request to modify a setting associated with a sub domain, the first transmission encoding an identification of a sub domain registrant of the sub domain and an identification of the sub domain; 
 determine, using the identification of the sub domain, an identification of a registrant of a domain name associated with the sub domain; 
 execute a database query on a rules database to identify a feature of the sub domain that a sub registrant is authorized to modify using the identification of the sub domain and the identification of the registrant, wherein the feature was previously identified by the registrant; 
 render the sub domain registration settings control panel including at least one hypertext markup language form element enabling a modification of the feature of the sub domain; 
 transmit the rendered sub domain registration settings control panel to the first client computer; 
 receive, from the first client computer, a transmission encoding the modification of the feature of the sub domain; and 
 execute an automated domain name system command updating a sub domain zone file pursuant to the modification of the feature of the sub domain. 
   
     
     
         2 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the instructions cause the server computer to store, in the rules database, at least one data record defining the feature and at least one hypertext markup language form element representing the feature. 
     
     
         3 . The system of  claim 2 , wherein each at least one data record comprises a data field defining a Boolean value, wherein:
 if the Boolean value is true, the at least one hypertext markup language form element is rendered on the sub domain registration settings control panel; and   if the Boolean value is false, the at least one hypertext markup language form element is not rendered on the sub domain registration settings control panel.   
     
     
         4 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the instructions cause the server computer to render an email address form element on the sub domain registration settings control panel for receiving an email address to be associated with the sub domain from the sub registrant. 
     
     
         5 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the instructions cause the server computer to render a tertiary domain hypertext markup language form element on the sub domain registration settings control panel for receiving a tertiary domain to be associated with the sub domain from the sub registrant. 
     
     
         6 . The system of  claim 1 , wherein the instructions cause the server computer to render a sub domain zone file modification hypertext markup language form element on the sub domain registration settings control panel for receiving modifications to the sub domain zone file from the sub registrant. 
     
     
         7 . A system comprising at least one processor executing instructions causing a server computer, coupled to a network, to:
 execute a database query on a rules database to identify a feature of a sub domain that a sub registrant is authorized to modify;   render a sub domain registration settings control panel including at least one hypertext markup language form element enabling a modification of the feature of the sub domain;   transmit the rendered sub domain registration settings control panel to a first client computer operated by the sub registrant;   receive, from the first client computer, a transmission encoding the modification of the feature of the sub domain; and   execute an automated domain name system command updating a sub domain zone file pursuant to the modification of the feature of the sub domain.   
     
     
         8 . The system of  claim 7 , wherein the instructions cause the server computer to store, in the rules database, at least one data record defining the feature and at least one hypertext markup language form element representing the feature. 
     
     
         9 . The system of  claim 8 , wherein each at least one data record comprises a data field defining a Boolean value, wherein:
 if the Boolean value is true, the at least one hypertext markup language form element is rendered on the sub domain registration settings control panel; and   if the Boolean value is false, the at least one hypertext markup language form element is not rendered on the sub domain registration settings control panel.   
     
     
         10 . The system of  claim 7 , wherein the instructions cause the server computer to render an email address form element on the sub domain registration settings control panel for receiving an email address to be associated with the sub domain from the sub registrant. 
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 7 , wherein the instructions cause the server computer to render a tertiary domain hypertext markup language form element on the sub domain registration settings control panel for receiving a tertiary domain to be associated with the sub domain from the sub registrant. 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 7 , wherein the instructions cause the server computer to render a sub domain zone file modification hypertext markup language form element on the sub domain registration settings control panel for receiving modifications to the sub domain zone file from the sub registrant. 
     
     
         13 . A method, comprising:
 executing a database query on a rules database to identify a feature of a sub domain that a sub registrant is authorized to modify;   rendering a sub domain registration settings control panel including at least one hypertext markup language form element enabling a modification of the feature of the sub domain;   transmitting the rendered sub domain registration settings control panel to a first client computer operated by the sub registrant;   receiving, from the first client computer, a transmission encoding the modification of the feature of the sub domain; and   executing an automated domain name system command updating a sub domain zone file pursuant to the modification of the feature of the sub domain.   
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising storing, in the rules database, at least one data record defining the feature and at least one hypertext markup language form element representing the feature. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein each at least one data record comprises a data field defining a Boolean value, wherein:
 if the Boolean value is true, the at least one hypertext markup language form element is rendered on the sub domain registration settings control panel; and   if the Boolean value is false, the at least one hypertext markup language form element is not rendered on the sub domain registration settings control panel.   
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising rendering an email address form element on the sub domain registration settings control panel for receiving an email address to be associated with the sub domain from the sub registrant. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising rendering a tertiary domain hypertext markup language form element on the sub domain registration settings control panel for receiving a tertiary domain to be associated with the sub domain from the sub registrant. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 13 , further comprising rendering a sub domain zone file modification hypertext markup language form element on the sub domain registration settings control panel for receiving modifications to the sub domain zone file from the sub registrant.
