Automatic tracking of geolocation data for exercises
Abstract
Techniques for automatic tracking of user data for exercises are disclosed. In one aspect, a method of operating a wearable device may involve determining, based on output of one or more biometric sensors, that a user of the wearable device has started an exercise and identifying a type of the exercise that the user has started based on comparing the output of the one or more biometric sensors to defined sensor data for a plurality of exercise types. The method may further include adjusting a global positioning system (GPS) receiver in response to determining the start of the exercise and based on the type of the exercise.

1 . A wearable device for automatically tracking an exercise, comprising:
one or more biometric sensors; a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with a mobile device; a touch screen display configured to display exercise metrics based on biometric data output from the one or more biometric sensors and receive touch input; at least one processor coupled to the one or more biometric sensors, the wireless transceiver, and the touch screen display; and a memory storing computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
determine, based on the biometric data output from the one or more biometric sensors, that a user of the wearable device has started an exercise,
display, via the touch screen display, an indication that the user has started the exercise,
receive, from the touch screen display, a touch input confirmation that the user has started the exercise, and
determine, based on the biometric data output from the one or more biometric sensors, that a user of the wearable device has ended the exercise.
2 . The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the memory further comprises computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
store at least a portion the biometric data related to the exercise in response to determining that the user has started the exercise, and end storage of the portion of the biometric data related the exercise in response to determining that the user has ended the exercise.
3 . The wearable device of claim 2 , wherein the memory further comprises computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
classify the exercise as a discrete exercise separate from other activity data in response to the touch input confirmation, and associate the stored portion of the biometric data related to the exercise with the discrete exercise.
4 . The wearable device of claim 3 , wherein the storing of the portion the biometric data related to the exercise is performed before receiving the touch input confirmation.
5 . The wearable device of claim 2 , wherein the memory further comprises computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
receive, from the touch screen display, an indication that the user has not started the exercise, and refrain from associating the stored portion of the biometric data with a discrete exercise.
6 . The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the memory further comprises computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
adjust a resolution of at least one of the one or more biometric sensors in response to determining that the user has started the exercise.
7 . The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the memory further comprises computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
identify a type of the exercise based on comparing the biometric data to defined sensor data for a plurality of exercise types in response to determining that the user has started the exercise.
8 . The wearable device of claim 6 , wherein the memory further comprises computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
select an exercise-related application based on the type of the exercise, and launch the selected exercise-related application.
9 . The wearable device of claim 1 , further comprising:
a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, wherein the memory further comprises computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
adjust the GPS receiver in response to determining that the user has started the exercise.
10 . The wearable device of claim 9 , wherein the computer-executable instructions for adjusting the GPS receiver cause the at least one processor to:
identify a type of the exercise based on comparing the biometric data to defined sensor data for a plurality of exercise types in response to determining that the user has started the exercise, turn on the GPS receiver based on the type of the exercise, and store position data based on geolocation data received from the GPS receiver.
11 . A biometric tracking device, comprising:
one or more biometric sensors; a touch screen display configured to display exercise metrics based on biometric data output from the one or more biometric sensors; at least one processor coupled to the one or more biometric sensors, the wireless transceiver, and the touch screen display; and a memory storing computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
determine, based on the biometric data output from the one or more biometric sensors, that a user of the wearable device has started an exercise;
display, via the touch screen display, an indication that the user has started the exercise;
receive, from the touch screen display, a touch input confirmation that the user has started the exercise; and
determine, based on the biometric data output from the one or more biometric sensors, that a user of the wearable device has ended the exercise.
12 . The biometric tracking device of claim 11 , wherein the memory further stores computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
store at least a portion the biometric data related to the exercise in response to determining that the user has started the exercise, and end storage of the portion of the biometric data related the exercise in response to determining that the user has ended the exercise.
13 . The biometric tracking device of claim 12 , wherein the memory further stores computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
classify the exercise as a discrete exercise separate from other activity data in response to the touch input confirmation, and associate the stored portion of the biometric data related to the exercise with the discrete exercise.
14 . The biometric tracking device of claim 13 , wherein the storing of the portion the biometric data related to the exercise is performed before receiving the touch input confirmation.
15 . The biometric tracking device of claim 12 , wherein the memory further stores computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
receive, from the touch screen display, an indication that the user has not started the exercise, and refrain from associating the stored portion of the biometric data with a discrete exercise.
16 . The biometric tracking device of claim 11 , wherein the memory further stores computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
adjust a resolution of at least one of the one or more biometric sensors in response to determining that the user has started the exercise.
17 . The biometric tracking device of claim 11 , wherein the memory further stores computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
identify a type of the exercise based on comparing the biometric data to defined sensor data for a plurality of exercise types in response to determining that the user has started the exercise.
18 . The biometric tracking device of claim 16 , wherein the memory further stores computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
select an exercise-related application based on the type of the exercise, and launch the selected exercise-related application.
19 . The biometric tracking device of claim 11 , further comprising:
a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, wherein the memory further stores computer-executable instructions for controlling the at least one processor to:
adjust the GPS receiver in response to determining that the user has started the exercise.
20 . The biometric tracking device of claim 19 , wherein the computer-executable instructions for adjusting the GPS receiver cause the at least one processor to:
identify a type of the exercise based on comparing the biometric data to defined sensor data for a plurality of exercise types in response to determining that the user has started the exercise, turn on the GPS receiver based on the type of the exercise, and store position data based on geolocation data received from the GPS receiver.
21 . A method of operating a wearable device, the wearable device comprising one or more biometric sensors, a touch screen display configured to display exercise metrics based on biometric data output from the one or more biometric sensors, and at least one processor, the method comprising:
determining, based on the biometric data output from the one or more biometric sensors, that a user of the wearable device has started an exercise, displaying, via the touch screen display, an indication that the user has started the exercise, receiving, from the touch screen display, a touch input confirmation that the user has started the exercise, and determining, based on the biometric data output from the one or more biometric sensors, that a user of the wearable device has ended the exercise.
22 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
storing at least a portion the biometric data related to the exercise in response to determining that the user has started the exercise, and ending storage of the portion of the biometric data related the exercise in response to determining that the user has ended the exercise.
23 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
classifying the exercise as a discrete exercise separate from other activity data in response to the touch input confirmation, and associating the stored portion of the biometric data related to the exercise with the discrete exercise.
24 . The method of claim 23 , wherein the storing of the portion the biometric data related to the exercise is performed before receiving the touch input confirmation.
25 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
receiving, from the touch screen display, an indication that the user has not started the exercise, and refraining from associating the stored portion of the biometric data with a discrete exercise.
26 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
adjusting a resolution of at least one of the one or more biometric sensors in response to determining that the user has started the exercise.
27 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
identifying a type of the exercise based on comparing the biometric data to defined sensor data for a plurality of exercise types in response to determining that the user has started the exercise.
28 . The method of claim 26 , further comprising:
selecting an exercise-related application based on the type of the exercise, and launching the selected exercise-related application.
29 . The method of claim 21 , wherein:
the wearable device further comprises a global positioning system (GPS) receiver, and the method further comprises:
adjusting the GPS receiver in response to determining that the user has started the exercise.
30 . The method of claim 21 , wherein adjusting the GPS receiver comprises:
identifying a type of the exercise based on comparing the biometric data to defined sensor data for a plurality of exercise types in response to determining that the user has started the exercise, turning on the GPS receiver based on the type of the exercise, and
