Abstract
The present invention relates to botulinum toxins for use in the treatment of paratonia. In particular, the present invention relates to the treatment of paratonia by local administration of a botulinum toxin to a muscle of a patient.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A botulinum toxin for use in the treatment of paratonia.
2 . The botulinum toxin for use according to claim 1 , wherein the paratonia has been diagnosed to have a PAI (paratonia assessment instrument) score of ≥3.
3 . The botulinum toxin for use according to claim 1 , wherein the paratonia affects an upper and/or lower limb.
4 . The botulinum toxin for use according to claim 1 , wherein the paratonia is associated with cognitive impairment as a result of Alzheimer's disease (AD), vascular dementia (VaD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), subcortical vascular dementia (SVD), or mixed dementia not otherwise specified (NOS).
5 . The botulinum toxin for use according to claim 1 , wherein the botulinum toxin is locally administered by intramuscular injection.
6 . The botulinum toxin for use according to claim 1 , wherein the botulinum toxin is administered in an amount of about 10 to 700 Units.
7 . The botulinum toxin for use according to claim 1 , wherein the botulinum toxin is selected from the group consisting of botulinum toxin types A, B, C 1 , D, E, F, G, and mixtures thereof.
8 . The botulinum toxin for use according to claim 7 , wherein the botulinum toxin is botulinum toxin type A.
9 . The botulinum toxin for use according to claim 1 , wherein the botulinum toxin is a botulinum toxin complex or the neurotoxic component of a botulinum toxin complex.
10 . A method of treating paratonia in a patient, the method comprising locally administering a therapeutically effective amount of botulinum toxin to a muscle of the patient.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
