Abstract

An implant for repairing tears in soft tissue, such as a meniscus, may include a lead anchoring member and a trailing anchoring member interlaced by a looped strand member. The lead anchoring member and the trailing anchoring member may be formed of a suture material having a diameter greater than a diameter of the strand member. The lead anchoring member and the trailing anchoring member may deform into a suture mass in response to a lead of the strand member being placed under tension to thereby cinch the looped portion. A self-locking locking knot may prevent loosening of the looped portion.

         59 . A method for repairing a tear in soft tissue, the soft tissue having a near surface and a far surface, the method comprising:
 providing a first anchoring member having a strand pathway extending therethrough;   puncturing a first hole, having a diameter, through the near surface of the soft tissue and the far surface of the soft tissue;   deploying the first anchoring member on the far surface of the soft tissue, through the first hole;   wherein a strand member is connected to the first anchoring member through the strand pathway of the first anchoring member and extends through the first hole; and   tensioning the strand member to deform the first anchoring member into an s-shaped mass larger than the diameter of the first hole, to close the tear in the soft tissue.   
     
     
         60 . The method of  claim 59 , further comprising,
 puncturing a second hole, having a diameter, through the near surface of the soft tissue and the far surface of the soft tissue;   deploying a second anchoring member on the far surface of the soft tissue, through the second hole, and   wherein the strand member has a first lead and a second lead, such that a length of the strand member extends from the first anchoring member to the second anchoring member.   
     
     
         61 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein only one of the first lead and the second lead exits the near surface of the soft tissue. 
     
     
         62 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein a knot is formed in the strand member. 
     
     
         63 . The method of  claim 62 , wherein the knot is disposed against and in contact with one of the first anchoring member and the second anchoring member. 
     
     
         64 . The method of  claim 59 , further comprising:
 tensioning the strand member to deform the second anchoring member into an s-shaped mass larger than the diameter of the second hole, to close the tear in the soft tissue.   
     
     
         65 . The method of  claim 60 , wherein the tensioning the strand member to deform the first anchoring member includes pulling on the first lead of the strand member, to close the tear in the soft tissue. 
     
     
         66 . The method of  claim 64 , wherein the tensioning the strand member to deform the second anchoring member includes pulling on the first lead of the strand member, to close the tear in the soft tissue. 
     
     
         67 . A method for repairing a tear in soft tissue, the soft tissue having a near surface and a far surface, the method comprising:
 providing a first anchoring member and a second anchoring member, each having a strand pathway extending therethrough;   puncturing a first hole, having a diameter, through a near surface of the soft tissue and a far surface of the soft tissue   deploying the first anchoring member on the far surface of the soft tissue, through the first hole;   puncturing a second hole, having a diameter, through a near surface of the soft tissue and a far surface of the soft tissue   deploying the second anchoring member on the far surface of the soft tissue, through the second hole;   wherein a strand member is connected to the first anchoring member and the second anchoring member through the strand pathways of the first and second anchoring members; and   tensioning the strand member to deform the first anchoring member and the second anchoring member into masses larger than the diameters of the first and second holes, to close the tear in the soft tissue.   
     
     
         68 . The method of  claim 67 , wherein the strand member has a first lead and a second lead, such that a length of the strand member extends from the first anchoring member to the second anchoring member. 
     
     
         69 . The method of  claim 68 , wherein only one of the first lead and the second lead exits the near surface of the soft tissue. 
     
     
         70 . The method of  claim 68 , wherein a knot is formed in the strand member. 
     
     
         71 . The method of  claim 70 , wherein the knot is disposed against and in contact with one of the first anchoring member and the second anchoring member. 
     
     
         72 . The method of  claim 67 , wherein each of the masses comprise either the first anchoring member or the second anchoring member deformed into an S-shaped mass. 
     
     
         73 . The method of  claim 67 , wherein the tensioning the strand member to deform the first anchoring member includes pulling on the first lead of the strand member, to close the tear in the soft tissue. 
     
     
         74 . The method of  claim 67 , wherein the tensioning the strand member to deform the second anchoring member includes pulling on the first lead of the strand member, to close the tear in the soft tissue. 
     
     
         75 . A method for repairing a tear in soft tissue, the soft tissue having a near surface and a far surface, the method comprising:
 providing a first anchoring member and a second anchoring member, each having a strand pathway extending therethrough;   puncturing a first hole, having a diameter, through a near surface of the soft tissue and a far surface of the soft tissue;   deploying the first anchoring member on the far surface of the soft tissue, through the first hole;   puncturing a second hole, having a diameter, through a near surface of the soft tissue and a far surface of the soft tissue   deploying the second anchoring member on the far surface of the soft tissue, through the second hole;   wherein a strand member is connected to the first anchoring member and the second anchoring member through the strand pathways of the first and second anchoring members, the strand member having a knot such that a first lead of the strand member exits the knot; and   tensioning the strand member by pulling on the first lead, to close the tear in the soft tissue.   
     
     
         76 . The method of  claim 75 , wherein the strand member also includes a second lead, and a length of the strand member extends from the first anchoring member to the second anchoring member. 
     
     
         77 . The method of  claim 76 , wherein only one of the first lead and the second lead exits the near surface of the soft tissue. 
     
     
         78 . The method of  claim 75 , wherein the knot is disposed against and in contact with one of the first anchoring member and the second anchoring member. 
     
     
         79 . The method of  claim 75 , further comprising:
 tensioning the strand member to deform the first anchoring member and the second anchoring member into masses larger than the diameters of the first and second holes, to close the tear in the soft tissue.   
     
     
         80 . The method of  claim 79 , wherein each of the masses comprise either the first anchoring member or the second anchoring member deformed into an S-shaped mass. 
     
     
         81 . The method of  claim 79 , wherein the tensioning the strand member to deform the first anchoring member includes pulling on the first lead of the strand member, to close the tear in the soft tissue. 
     
     
         82 . The method of  claim 81 , wherein the tensioning the strand member to deform the second anchoring member includes pulling on the first lead of the strand member, to close the tear in the soft tissue.
