Abstract
A capability for perfect application capacity analysis for elastic capacity management of a cloud-based application is presented. The capability for perfect application capacity analysis for elastic capacity management of a cloud-based application may support use of perfect application capacity analysis to identify opportunities for improvements in elastic capacity management of the cloud-based application. The capability for perfect application capacity analysis for elastic capacity management of a cloud-based application may include receiving historical application demand and capacity data for the cloud-based application, determining a set of constraints associated with the cloud-based application, determining perfect application capacity data for the cloud-based application based on the historical application demand data for the cloud-based application and the set of constraints associated with the cloud-based application, and identifying, based on the historical application capacity data for the cloud-based application and the perfect application capacity data for the cloud-based application, an opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application.

at least one processor; and at least one memory including computer program code; wherein the at least one memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least:
determine, for a cloud-based application, historical application data including at least one of historical application capacity data or historical application demand data;
determine, for the cloud-based application, perfect application capacity data including at least one of first perfect application capacity data that is based on an operational constraint or second perfect application capacity data that is based on a policy constraint; and
identify, based on at least a portion of the historical application data and at least a portion of the perfect application capacity data, an opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application.
2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is identified based on the historical application capacity data and the first perfect application capacity data.
3 . The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is indicative of an opportunity for an operational improvement for the cloud-based application.
4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is identified based on the historical application demand data and the second perfect application capacity data.

The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is indicative of at least one of an opportunity for a policy improvement for the cloud-based application or an opportunity for an architectural improvement for the cloud-based application.
6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least:
identify, based on the first perfect application capacity data and the second perfect application capacity data, an additional opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application.
7 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the additional opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is indicative of an opportunity for a process improvement for the cloud-based application.
8 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first perfect application capacity data is based on the policy constraint.
9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least:
perform elastic capacity management for a cloud-based application based on the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application.
10 . A method, comprising:
determining, for a cloud-based application, historical application data including at least one of historical application capacity data or historical application demand data; determining, for the cloud-based application, perfect application capacity data including at least one of first perfect application capacity data that is based on an operational constraint or second perfect application capacity data that is based on a policy constraint; and identifying, based on at least a portion of the historical application data and at least a portion of the perfect application capacity data, an opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application.
11 . An apparatus, comprising:
at least one processor; and at least one memory including computer program code; wherein the at least one memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least:
perform, for a cloud-based application, elastic capacity management for managing capacity of the cloud-based application;
determine, for the cloud-based application, perfect application capacity data including at least one of first perfect application capacity data that is based on an operational constraint or second perfect application capacity data that is based on a policy constraint; and
identify, based on at least a portion of the perfect application capacity data, an opportunity to improve the elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application.
12 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the at least one memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least:
determine, for the cloud-based application, historical application capacity data of the cloud-based application.
13 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is identified based on the historical application capacity data and the first perfect application capacity data.
14 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is indicative of an opportunity for an operational improvement for the cloud-based application.
15 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is identified based on the first perfect application capacity data and the second perfect application capacity data.
16 . The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is indicative of an opportunity for a process improvement for the cloud-based application.
17 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the at least one memory and the computer program code are configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least:
determine, for the cloud-based application, historical application demand data of the cloud-based application.
18 . The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is identified based on the second perfect application capacity data and the historical application demand data.

The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the opportunity to improve elastic capacity management for the cloud-based application is indicative of at least one of an opportunity for a policy improvement for the cloud-based application or an opportunity for an architectural improvement for the cloud-based application.
20 . A method, comprising:
