Seaweed-derived cosmetic compositions

Abstract

A cosmetic composition is disclosed for applying to skin. The composition includes a liquid and dispersed in the liquid: any amount or form of fucoidan, any amount or form of beta glucan; and any amount of a marine extract. When the cosmetic composition is applied to the skin, the appearance of the skin is improved.

         11 . A cosmetic composition for applying to skin, the composition comprising:
 from about 1.5 wt. % to about 5.5 wt. % of a seaweed complex comprising  Ulva lactuca, Alteromonas macleodii  and Astaxanthin in a ratio of about 7:1.5:1.5;   any amount present of tourmaline;   any amount present of volcanic obsidian;   from about 8 wt. % to about 12 wt. % of a complex comprising β-glucan:fucoidan in a ratio of about 1:1;   any amount present of aqueous  Aloe barbadensis  leaf extract;   any amount present of hydrolyzed pearl nacre;   any amount present of chitosan;   any amount present of phospholipids;   any amount present of glyceryl stearate;   any amount present of stearic acid;   any amount present of cetearyl alcohol;   any amount present of ceteareth 20;   any amount present of isopropyl palmitate;   any amount present of a mixture comprising ascorbyl polypeptide, tocotrienol, tocopheryl acetate, ergocalciferol, and niacinamide;   any amount present of a mixture comprising aqueous extracts comprising  Camellia sinensis;      any amount present of a complex comprising butylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, sorbic acid, and PEG8/SMDI copolymer;   about 8 wt. % of aqueous superoxide dismutase liposomes;   about 10 wt. % of a glycolic acid-salicylic acid solution that has been neutralized; and   a wt. % of purified water such that the total percentage of the composition is 100%,   wherein the pH of the cosmetic composition is about 4.   
     
     
         12 . The composition of  claim 11 , wherein the β-glucan comprises yeast β-glucan and fungi β-glucan in a ratio of about 1:1. 
     
     
         13 . The composition of  claim 11 , wherein,
 the tourmaline is about 0.15 wt. %;   the volcanic obsidian is about 0.05 wt. %;   the  Aloe barbadensis  leaf extract is about 10 wt. %;   the hydrolyzed pearl nacre is about 1.5 wt. %;   the chitosan is about 1.0 wt. %;   the phospholipids are about 10 wt. %;   the glyceryl stearate is about 3 wt. %;   the stearic acid is about 3 wt. %;   cetearyl alcohol is about 3 wt. %;   ceteareth 20 is about 3 wt. %; and   isopropyl palmitate is about 3 wt. %.   
     
     
         14 . The composition of  claim 11 , wherein the mixture comprising ascorbyl polypeptide, tocotrienol, tocopheryl acetate, ergocalciferol, and niacinamide is about 6 wt. % and is in a ratio of about 3:1:1:1:1. 
     
     
         15 . The composition of  claim 11 , wherein the complex comprising aqueous extracts further comprises  Centella asiatica, Matricaria chamomilla, Echinacea angustifblia , and  Ginkgo biloba,    wherein each of the components of the complex are present in equal amounts and,   wherein the complex is about 1.5 wt. %.   
     
     
         16 . The composition of  claim 11 , wherein the complex comprising butylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, sorbic acid, and PEG8/SMDI copolymer is about 2.5 wt. % and is in a ratio of about 1.5:0.5:0.25:0.25:0.25. 
     
     
         17 . The composition of  claim 11 , further comprising any one or more of a sunscreen, a silicone surfactant, a preservative, a botanical antioxidant, an amino acid, and a percutaneous penetration enhancer. 
     
     
         18 . A cosmetic composition for applying to skin, the composition comprising:
 from about 3.5 wt. % to about 5.5 wt. % of a seaweed complex comprising  Ecklonia cava, Alteromonas macleodii  and Astaxanthin in a ratio of about 7:1.5:1.5;   any amount present of tourmaline;   any amount present of volcanic obsidian;   from about 8 wt. % to about 10 wt. % of a complex comprising 3-glucan:fucoidan complex in a ratio of about 1:1;   any amount present of aqueous  Aloe barbadensis  leaf extract;   any amount present of hydrolyzed pearl nacre;   any amount present of chitosan;   any amount present of phospholipids;   any amount present of glyceryl stearate;   any amount present of stearic acid;   any amount present of cetearyl alcohol;   any amount present of ceteareth 20;   any amount present of isopropyl palmitate;   about 6 wt. % of a 3:1.5:1.5:0.5 mixture of tocotrienol, tocopheryl acetate, niacinamide, and retinol;   any amount present of a mixture comprising aqueous extracts of  Vitis vinifera, Matricaria chamomilla, Echinacea angustifolia, Panax ginseng  and  Glycine soja , and allantoin;   any amount present of a complex comprising butylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, sorbic acid, and PEG8/SMDI copolymer;   about 8 wt. % of aqueous superoxide dismutase liposomes;   about 10 wt. % of a glycolic acid-salicylic acid solution that has been neutralized; and   a wt. % of purified water such that the total percentage of the composition is 100%,   wherein the pH of the cosmetic composition is about 4.   
     
     
         19 . The composition of  claim 18 , wherein the β-glucan comprises yeast β-glucan and fungi β-glucan in a ratio of about 1:1. 
     
     
         20 . The composition of  claim 18 , wherein,
 the tourmaline is about 0.15 wt. %;   the volcanic obsidian is about 0.05 wt. %;   the  Aloe barbadensis  leaf extract is about 10 wt. %;   the hydrolyzed pearl nacre is about 1.5 wt. %;   the chitosan is about 1.0 wt. %;   the phospholipids are about 10 wt. %;   the glyceryl stearate is about 4 wt. %;   the stearic acid is about 4 wt. %;   cetearyl alcohol is about 4 wt. %;   ceteareth 20 is about 4 wt. %; and   isopropyl palmitate is about 4 wt. %.   
     
     
         21 . The composition of  claim 18 , wherein the mixture comprising aqueous extracts is about 2.5 wt. % and is in a ratio of about 1:1:1:1:1:1. 
     
     
         22 . The composition of  claim 18 , wherein the complex comprising butylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, sorbic acid, and PEG8/SMDI copolymer is about 2.5 wt. % and is in a ratio of about 1.5:0.5:0.25:0.25:0.25. 
     
     
         23 . The composition of  claim 18 , further comprising any one or more of a sunscreen, a silicone surfactant, a preservative, a botanical antioxidant, an amino acid, and a percutaneous penetration enhancer. 
     
     
         24 . A cosmetic composition for applying to skin, the composition comprising:
 about 5.5 wt. % of a seaweed complex comprising  Undaria pinnatifida  and Astaxanthin in a ratio of about 7:5;   any amount present of tourmaline;   any amount present of volcanic obsidian;   about 8 wt. % of a complex comprising β-glucan:fucoidan in a ratio of about 1:1;   any amount present of aqueous  Aloe barbadensis  leaf extract;   any amount present of hydrolyzed pearl nacre;   any amount present of chitosan;   any amount present of phospholipids;   any amount present of glyceryl stearate;   any amount present of stearic acid;   any amount present of cetearyl alcohol;   any amount present of ceteareth 20;   any amount present of isopropyl palmitate;   about 6 wt. % of a mixture comprising tocotrienol, tocopheryl acetate, niacinamide, and  crithmum maritimum  in a ratio of about 3:1.5:1.5:0.5;   any amount present of a mixture comprising aqueous extracts of  Vitis vinifera, Matricaria chamomilla, Echinacea angustifolia, Panax ginseng , and  Glycine soja , and allantoin;   any amount present of a complex comprising butylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, sorbic acid, and PEG8/SMDI copolymer;   about 8 wt. % of aqueous superoxide dismutase liposomes;   about 10 wt. % of a glycolic acid-salicylic acid solution that has been neutralized; and   a wt. % of purified water such that the total percentage of the composition is 100%,   wherein the pH of the cosmetic composition is about 4.   
     
     
         25 . The composition of  claim 24 , wherein the β-glucan comprises yeast β-glucan and fungi β-glucan in a ratio of about 1:1. 
     
     
         26 . The composition of  claim 24 , wherein,
 the tourmaline is about 0.15 wt. %;   the volcanic obsidian is about 0.05 wt. %;   the  Aloe barbadensis  leaf extract is about 10 wt. %;   the hydrolyzed pearl nacre is about 1.5 wt. %;   the chitosan is about 1.0 wt. %;   the phospholipids are about 10 wt. %;   the glyceryl stearate is about 4 wt. %;   the stearic acid is about 4 wt. %;   cetearyl alcohol is about 4 wt. %;   ceteareth 20 is about 4 wt. %; and   isopropyl palmitate is about 4 wt. %.   
     
     
         27 . The composition of  claim 24 , wherein the mixture comprising aqueous extracts is about 2.5 wt. % and is in a ratio of about 1:1:1:1:1:1. 
     
     
         28 . The composition of  claim 24 , wherein the complex comprising butylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, caprylyl glycol, sorbic acid, and PEG8/SMDI copolymer is about 2.5 wt. % and is in a ratio of about 1.5:0.5:0.25:0.25:0.25. 
     
     
         29 . The composition of  claim 24 , further comprising any one or more of a sunscreen, a silicone surfactant, a preservative, a botanical antioxidant, an amino acid, and a percutaneous penetration enhancer.
