Abstract
The systems, devices, and methods discussed herein are directed to a network for delivering to portable communication devices, or user equipment (UEs) subscribed to the network, an update for an install service, such as software and firmware, via a hybrid transport mechanism. The hybrid transport mechanism comprises initially broadcasting the update to multiple UEs simultaneously, then re-broadcasting, multicasting, multiple unicasting, and/or transmitting via a wireless local area network (WLAN), the update to a group of UEs that missed the initial broadcast and/or needing file repairs.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method in a user equipment (UE) for receiving a service update for an installed service, the method comprising:
receiving a service announcement from a broadcast multicast service center (BMSC), the service announcement including a notice of a service update availability associated with a service update; establishing communication with a server communicatively coupled to the BMSC; transmitting a report by the UE to the BMSC, the report indicating that the UE has failed to implement the service update; and in response to transmitting the report to the BMSC, receiving the service update via a unicast from the BMSC.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the service announcement includes a scheduled broadcast time for receiving the service update.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the service announcement is received in response to transmitting an inquiry, from the UE, regarding the service update availability.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving a periodic service announcement, the periodic service announcement associated with the service update.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
implementing the service update via the unicast from the BMSC; and transmitting another report by the UE to the BMSC, the another report indicating that the UE has successfully implemented the service update.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the report indicating the UE has failed to implement the service update indicates a type of a failure to implement the service update.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the report indicates that the UE has:
failed to receive the service update; failed to successfully implement the service update; received a corrupt service update; or received an incomplete service update.
8 . A system for updating an installed service in a user equipment (UE) comprising:
one or more processors; and a computer storage medium coupled to the one or more processors, the computer storage medium storing computer-readable instructions by the one or more processors, that when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving a service announcement from a broadcast multicast service center (BMSC), the service announcement including a notice of a service update availability associated with a service update;
establishing communication with a server communicatively coupled to the BMSC;
transmitting a report by the UE to the BMSC, the report indicating that the UE has failed to implement the service update; and
in response to transmitting the report to the BMSC, receiving the service update via a unicast from the BMSC.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the service announcement includes a scheduled broadcast time for receiving the service update.
10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the service announcement is received in response to transmitting an inquiry, from the UE, regarding the availability of the service update.
11 . The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:
receiving a periodic service announcement, the periodic service announcement associated with the service update.
12 . The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:
implementing the service update via the unicast from the BMSC; and transmitting another report by the UE to the BMSC, the another report indicating that the UE has successfully implemented the service update.
13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the report indicating the UE has failed to implement the service update indicates a type of a failure to implement the service update.
14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the report indicates that the UE has:
failed to receive the service update; failed to successfully implement the service update; received a corrupt service update; or received an incomplete service update.
15 . A user equipment (UE) comprising:
one or more processors; and a computer storage medium coupled to the one or more processors, the computer storage medium storing computer-readable instructions by the one or more processors, that when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving a service announcement from a broadcast multicast service center (BMSC), the service announcement including a notice of a service update availability, the notice of the service update availability associated with the service update;
establishing communication with a server communicatively coupled to the BMSC;
transmitting a report by the UE to the BMSC, the report indicating that the UE has failed to implement the service update; and
in response to transmitting the report to the BMSC, receiving the service update via a unicast from the BMSC.
16 . The UE of claim 15 , wherein the service announcement includes a scheduled broadcast time for receiving the service update.
17 . The UE of claim 15 , wherein the service announcement is received in response to transmitting an inquiry, from the UE, regarding the availability of the service update.
18 . The UE of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise:
receiving a periodic service announcement, the periodic service announcement associated with the service update.
19 . The UE of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprising:
implementing the service update via the unicast from the BMSC; and transmitting another report by the UE to the BMSC, the another report indicating that the UE has successfully implemented the service update.
20 . The UE of claim 15 , wherein the report indicating the UE has failed to implement the service update indicates a type of a failure to implement the service update.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
