Abstract

Proton mopping is a new anti-cancer therapeutic approach that disrupts cancer's immunologic balance. It results in the alteration of the pHi/pHe ratio (intracellular-extracellular) of the cancer cell, leading cancer to either normalcy or apoptosis. This technology deploys a chemical compound that has two parts, a glucose part to guide the molecule to the cancer site and a proton neutralizer to mop up the protons. Proof of the validity of this therapeutic approach came after using an existing chemical compound 2-[2(2-Aminoethoxy)ethoxy]ethyl a-D-mannopyranoside, C 12 H 25 NO 8 , which has the above mentioned properties. This compound is of the class of functionalized PEGylated glycosides, which are ligands for conjugation to biological molecules.

1 . A new cancer therapeutic method that is based on proton (hydrogen ion) mopping. 
     
     
         2 . A chemical compound, according to  claim 1 , which performs the proton mopping. 
     
     
         3 . Said chemical compound, according to  claims 1  and  2 , has two parts, one for targeting cancer cells and one for mopping up the protons. 
     
     
         4 . Said chemical compound, according to  claims 1 ,  2  and  3 , further comprising the targeting part of said chemical compound to be of the glucose family or equivalent or analog to glucose. 
     
     
         5 . Said chemical compound, according to  claims 1 ,  2  and  3 , further comprising the proton mopping part to be either of the amine NH 2  family or equivalent proton acceptor. 
     
     
         6 . Said chemical compound, according to  claim 1 , which enters the cancer cells and mops up the excess protons (hydrogen ions) produced by the cancer metabolism. 
     
     
         7 . Said chemical compound, according to  claims 1  and  6 , which alters the pH ratio between the intracellular and the extracellular space of the cancer cells. 
     
     
         8 . Said chemical compound, according to  claims 1 ,  6  and  7 , which by altering the pHi/pHe (intra-extracellular) of the cancer cell, it alters the cancer metabolism, guiding cancer to either normalcy or apoptosis. 
     
     
         9 . Said chemical compound, as in any one of preceding claims, can be the existing molecule, with molecular formula C 12 H 25 NO 8  and name 2-[2(2-Aminoethoxy)ethoxy]ethyl a-D-mannopyranoside, which can perform proton mopping from the cancer cells.
